Ehhh.... That doesn't make it automatic though. It's possible any number of guys are on something, but I don't see it with RJ. Heck, Nolan Ryan and Satchel Paige are just 2 examples of guys who pitched into their mid 40's and I don't think either of them were on anything. Honestly, by that criteria we could cite just about every player in the game. I was looking for substantial articles that link RJ and Gagne. Pared cited one earlier about Gagne.

I just assume that everyone is on the Juice. Much easier that way.Comment

Re: Sports Doping (Steroids)/ Name Names
Yep, if you played baseball in the 90s and early 2000s you were on the juice. Seriously more players were on the juice than off the stuff. That's way baseball doesn't want to look into this. It would be shocking.Comment

I don't know, I guess I feel like a lot of guys were on this crap. And Nolan was a pretty strong guy even in his forty and I will say one thing I am sure he was taking more then just aspirin.Comment

Re: Sports Doping (Steroids)/ Name Names
I wouldn't be surprised if many guys are on this stuff. In fact, I think many are. However, there are a few that I do think did it naturally. Ryan is one of those guys. Unlike most steroid users, he seems to be doing pretty well at age 60. In fact, he threw out the ceremonial first pitch for a game this past year and without warming up, hit 85 MPH on the radar gun.
Ryan is just a genetic freak IMO.Comment

Don't forget the NFL's David Boston. A poster child, if you ask me, of steroid use and how it can ruin a career."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace
"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob NeyerComment

Re: Sports Doping (Steroids)/ Name Names
I guess my point is that not everyone in their 40's who is strong or in good shape is on steroids. That seems to be the trendy thought recently. It is certainly possible Nolan Ryan and a few other guys are those types that just take very good care of their bodies and are genetic freaks.

He is still on the juice.Any ways I know there a lot of players in the NFL that had to have taken it some time. Do you really get that strong naturally?
