a question for those with a camcorder

We purchased our first camcorder last night; the sony hdr-sr5 to get ready to start recording the last few months of my wife's pregnancy and then to capture our little ones childhood:

The question i have is this: Is having a viewfinder that big of a deal? the sr5 model only has an lcd display. Since i know nothing about camcorders at this point, the only real reason i can see for having one is to cut down on the battery drain.

Would there be any other reason i would want to upgrade to the next model up which has a viewfinder?

yeah, uses more batter with the LCD. But I have had a cam corder for 5 years and have never used the view finder. I always use the LCD.
