That'll leave a black mark on Chicago PD. I always feel bad for cops, it's like a no win situation for them.

I never understood the general unappreciation/nonacceptance of the people who for the most part, try to keep everyone safe.

Yeah what they did was idiotic, but I'm talking about in general.

Because they beat people, act like asses, and the rare times they get caught doing something wrong they are rarely prosecuted or even punished. The police's form of punishment is paid leave. And the Chicago police department is known as being terrible so this won't leave any new black marks.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

Wow, that sums up the police in Western Mass pretty well actually. They and their friends will do whatever they want, DUI by a cop, no big deal. Filing a false police report, no big deal.

If I become a defense attorney in this area, I'll have a field day.

Funny stuff. It's ridiculous how some people act when they get power over others. Feel less respect for officers who are quick to pull without analyzing the situation. Within a situation like that, there clearly needs to be some serious disciplinary actions handed down. I hope he gets everything he deserves and more. It's like Chicago Police are getting more ******** everyday. There are a lot of great officers, but man the bad bunch make the whole look rotten.

I guess I worded that incorrectly, I can understand why people would have anti-police sentiments, I just really feel for the good cops whom I believe outnumber by far the bad cops.

The story sounds bad, obviously, but I'd like to hear the other side of the story too.

As critical as I am of cops, I also feel bad for the truly good cops. Hell my father used to be a cop (lets not even pretend he was a good cop though), so I feel for them. It is just so sickening the idiots they give power too, in my area they throw 18-20 year old kids out there without sending them to the academy, just what I want as a citizen, someone with police authority who was likely too stupid to get into college.

Haha, in that situation, I honestly see no other side of the story. They seem like they were in the wrong by a long shot, and they gave that family a huge unnecessary headache.

To be fair there is a lot we don't know, this could have been a sting and the 'hooker' may have given a signal by mistake. Perhaps there is more to the story then what this site said. I'm not saying its likely, but that site

honestly, just like with the rest of things, the whiny minority or in this case the bad cops make things seem worse then they really are. I have a feeling the good cops outweigh the bad... regardless of the number of stories people on OS bring up about cops being crooked.

Having said that, the cops are in the wrong here...

                            I think you're right.

It only appears that there are a lot of bad cops because negativity sells ratings and papers.

No one wants to talk about the cops that pulled over a speeding driver that could have caused an accident. We'll get the stories about a cop that saved someone's life but that's about it.

It's not news if an officer does what he/she is supposed to do. And that's a good thing. It's only news if they do wrong and when you think about it, there aren't that many stories of cops doing wrong. It's just that when they do happen they get blown out by the media.

And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

I try to support police and think the majority do a solid job, at least the ones I have encountered. However, this situation really is perplexing to me.

Recently, my wife's friend was sexually assualted by an acquantance who happended to be a police officer. He pleaded guilty to the charges and was dismissed from the force. About eight months later, she receives a call from the police chief that they need her to come testify in a hearing because he is trying to get his job back. They need her testimony according to him to keep him from getting his job back. She is obviously upset because of what she went through during the depositions and so on. Now they want her to go back to testify again for something the guy pleaded guilty to to try to keep the guy from returning to the force? I just don't understand....
