Re: Van Halen Reunion - Michael Anthony Doesn't Deserve This
It's not a "reunion," IMO.
Something has to be seriously wrong with EV if he continues to brake relationships with ex-band members the way he does. Sure, everyone has egos and such, but first it's Lee Roth, then Haggar, now Anthony.
At least Anthony isn't bashing anyone in that interview. Who knows. There's always two sides to a story, but Eddie's always involved.Being kind, one to another, never disappoints. -
Re: Van Halen Reunion - Michael Anthony Doesn't Deserve This
Both Van Halens (Eddie and Alex) are A-Holes. I loved their music with Sammy and Dave, but don't give to craps about them now. It's not the same unless all the members are there (it might be different if one of them was dead).
I think it's really sad they took his pic off the album covers on their website. Pretty childish. Eddie is just a drunk idiot anyway. Can't keep a band together, can't keep his family together. My Fan Page http://theusualgamer.net/MyFanPage_Heelfan71.aspx

Re: Van Halen Reunion - Michael Anthony Doesn't Deserve This
I think I said this in the other thread on this subject, but Eddie has held contempt for Mikey since at least the Diver Down album. Eddie did not believe he brought anything to the band that was not replaceable. On their last studio album, the "classic" Van Halen III, Mike played on a total of (I believe) 3 tracks.
That being said, I will be up tomorrow morning buying tickets for their show here in St. Louis. I have never seen the band with Dave, and Eddie needs to make it up to me for his poor excuse of playing that he exhibited in 2004. I just have to find a "Where the F#@K is Michael Anthony" shirt.Comment

Re: Van Halen Reunion - Michael Anthony Doesn't Deserve This
I've only seen VH in Monster of Rock and OU812 tour, therefore never got the pleasure to see David Lee Roth live. But I will not get tickets to this tour because if I didn't see DLR at his prime, seeing him at this stage of his career definitely won't make up for it. Also, for those who have seen him live, can DLR really sing?Comment

Gary Cherone wasn't the ideal VH singer, but the guy did an ok job. One of the unreleased songs from VHIII that was cut so Eddie can get his piece of **** song at the end of the album, was awesome and could have been a good radio hit. I just hope one day we do get to listen to the unreleased second album by Cherone and VH that was to be released but Gary left or got fired behind closed doors.
It is kind of funny how Sammy, Gary, and Michael for the most part were never as vocal as the Van Halen brothers after they were ousted from the band. Sammy said a few choice things, but nothing like Diamond Dave. It just goes to show what class acts these three were..............and
Eddie, Alex......how sad is it that Sammy Hagar has put out 5 studio albums and 1 live album since he was gone from the band, all you whiners give us just 1 studio album. I have to hand it to Sammy, he moved on and did what he wanted.........that was ROCK.Comment

Re: Van Halen Reunion - Michael Anthony Doesn't Deserve This
I don't care too much about VH, but it does seem like Anthony is getting the short end of the stick. I just don't know about the "Where is Michael Anthony?" t-shirts...especially on the people wearing them to the upcoming concerts. What exactly is that saying? We're pissed that you dropped Anthony, but we'll pay for you concert anyway?Comment

Re: Van Halen Reunion - Michael Anthony Doesn't Deserve This
Eddie really was an A-Hole. As a bassplayer, and with MA as one of my influence when I first started playing, I'd have to say that EVH's songwriting left no room for any bassplayer to innovate. Since his guitar part was what carried a song, the bass part has no choice but to "get out of the way", so to speak. It has to be kept relatively simple. But I think MA's backup vocals is a distinguishing trademark of Van Halen's music, whether with DLR or with Sammy, and in no way replaceable.Comment

Re: Van Halen Reunion - Michael Anthony Doesn't Deserve This
They probably won't, but I'd love to hear them do Best of Both Worlds without Anthony.
I agree too that them taking his pic off of the first album is ridiculous.Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.Comment

I'm sure they will do everything Roth era, they won't venture into Sammy era, just because of the feud.Comment

Re: Van Halen Reunion - Michael Anthony Doesn't Deserve This
On the topic of Anthony's playing and backgrounds...it's interesting that for the most part, the bass lines for most Van Halen songs are rather simple. The problem is, throw Joe Blow out there to play the songs and they won't sound right. Mike formed such a great foundation with Alex that it is instantly noticeable when someone is not playing those songs right. And that's not even covering his background vocals. I am really interested to see what they do for these songs live, because we know Dave does not have his range anymore. Will they use pretaped vocals? Mike's backgrounds are as important to those early songs as Eddie's playing. It will be interesting to see how this turns out.Comment

Point being, they probably never really thought of Anthony as an equal and his time with the band was always 'day to day', wether he realized it or not.Comment

Re: Van Halen Reunion - Michael Anthony Doesn't Deserve This
This is all Eddie and Alex's fault that this band has become mediocre due to all the fighting with everyone but themselves. Yes, Dave has an ego but so does Eddie. As much as I also blame Alex, he was the one to always be the middle man between the return of Sammy or even Dave returning twice already.
Yes, Eddie has wanted to get rid of Anthony since Diver Down......which is a shame.
Gary Cherone wasn't the ideal VH singer, but the guy did an ok job. You think, Roth was just as much Van Halen as the Eddie was. He helped put them on the map. He had incredible stage present and had a solid voice. Plus the guy was very attracted and the girls would go to the concert just to see David. David has every right to be hating on Eddie. I am sure Van would have been a great band, but if they never had Roth, I don't think they would have been as big as they were. Yes, Eddie is a great guitar player, so who knows. Just my opinion.Comment
