Can this be done without buying a expensive program. I have some home movies that I want to put to CD evetually. Many of them are starting to fade, so I want to put them on CD.

I'd think the easiest way would be converting them to DVD, and then rip the DVD to the PC. -

If you get a TV tuner card, you can plug in a VCR via composite cables or a coaxial cable and record using the software that comes with it to your hard drive.
