Re: ken burns' the war
Mmmmm, about 90 minutes in on tivo and I don't think it's anything spectacular so far. No mention of the Doolittle Raid was disappointing (perhaps later?). Putting the Bataan Death March back to back with Japanese Internment rubbed me the wrong way.
I hope it gets better.
............The Guadalcanal segments seem better.Last edited by mudtiger; 09-24-2007, 12:24 AM.Comment

Re: ken burns' the war
I thought it was great and am looking forward to the rest. I hope a lot of people are watching this - it is a lot more important than all of the enjoyable but mostly mindless shows that appear to be getting a lot more PR in this forum (not that I don't watch some of them as well).Comment

Re: ken burns' the war
don't get me wrong, this is a good film, but something is lacking. it think i was looking for more military tactics like in the civil war one. i miss the little bars and maps. they spent like 2 minutes on the invasion of sicily. oh well, i'll still watch.Individuality: Always remember that you are unique. Re: ken burns' the war
Agree 100%. This just isn't up to the civil war documentary standard he set. It's good, but not great. I'd even say a bit boring in some spots, but balanced with some excellent segments like the b-17 ball turret gunner stuff.Comment

i loved the ... god help us ... come yourself. don't send jesus. this is no place for children .... line. saw the babe chamberlin ending from a mile away. will be interesting to see his take on d-day. how will ken burns give us a view of the european offensive that hasn't already been told in band of brothers, etc?Individuality: Always remember that you are unique. Re: ken burns' the war
It still pales in comparison to the BBC's The World at War narrated by Lawrence Olivier. If you are a WW2 buff and really enjoy the strategic aspects of WW2 then do yourself a favor and search for this set because all aspects from every side of the war is explained in detail. It's pricey and somewhat hard to find but if you can get your hands on it then don't hesitate to buy it. Some of the footage shown is incredible and at over 34 hours, including the extras, nothing is left untouched.Last edited by Seymour Scagnetti; 09-25-2007, 11:31 PM.Comment
