I really think it could be around at least another 20 years, minimum. Hell, they may still be cranking out new episodes another 5-10 years.

How long will The Simpsons stay on the air in syndication?
I was thinking about this while watching an episode from 1994 when Marge said would you want people to be laughing at you in 20 years. That would take us to 2014, a little over 6 years from now. They still air in syndication on network channels and haven't yet made it to cable syndication. So with that in consideration, how long do you think this will be on for.

I would imagine 20+ years after they end up calling the series a wrap. Key to that one... when is it a wrap?Rose City 'Til I Die

Re: How long will The Simpsons stay on the air in syndication?
The creators and writers have all said that they don't see an end in sight.
And they also made it clear that the day they run out of ideas will be the day they end the show.
But ideas will never end because they'll always find some new writers to keep things fresh.
I'm going to guess that a lot of it will depend on whether or not Groening will want to continue or if the voice-actors find a reason to stop (whether it be by strike or lack of interest)."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

My guess would be anywhere from 50-150+ years. Look at Leave It To Beaver, a show that celebrates it 50th birthday next week. It never cracked the Top 30 during it's original run but became a gold mine in syndication starting just after the series ended in 1963.Comment

Re: How long will The Simpsons stay on the air in syndication?
I would guess once one of the original cast leaves for whatever reason they will call it quits. Im guessing it would have to be one of the significant characters, which is pretty much any of them. Maybe they could get by without Crabbaple (Marcia Wallace)Comment

As long as Matt Groening wants.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

The Simpsons is gonna be like I Love Lucy and The Andy Griffith show. It's gonna be in syndication somewhere around the world from now to eternity. You can book it.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

The late Troy McClure had it right:

If that was true, The Simpsons would've ended in 1997 or so.

Re: How long will The Simpsons stay on the air in syndication?
it takes months to make one episode, and they're making them into DVD movies first anyways. They'll then cut them into episodes. So sometime in 2008.Comment

The quality of Simpsons episodes peaked around 1993 and went into serious decline after 1997. I'm sure the writers have had plenty of ideas in the last decade. Unfortunately, they've mostly been terrible ones.Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that.
