    The "Other" Music Thread

Figured I'd start a thread for those bands that may not be big enough or popular enough to start an entirely new thread for. Post about your favorite CDs, songs, bands, etc., here.

For me, the two that I don't think many people know (though, they're starting to get airtime) are Minus the Bear and Just Surrender.

Minus the Bear speaks for itself, and Just Surrender is more "pop-ish" than what I usually listen to or like, but something about their new CD "We're In Like Sin" has me listening to it over and over again when I barely listened to their first CD.

I figure this can be more like the "Underground rap" thread, only for...all music in general.

      Q PUBLIC

      (click picture for their MySpace)

I know I've created a thread about them before, but obviously it needed to be in a thread like this to get noticed (seeing that nobody would post in the other thread). Here was the original thread I had:

      http://forums.operationsports.com/vB...d.php?t=209872

The band's music genre is described as follows: Alternative rock with an agressive pop sensibility... although sometimes, they delve into the christian-gangster-death-light jazz-metal arena.

I know that I have talked about this band before in the Indie Rock thread, but I think it's time that I start a thread about them. I understand that, after reading the Nickelback thread, they say that they are sick of that kind of voice or music or whatever, but this is just so much better to me. Q Public is a frontrunner as my favorite band alongside 3 Doors Down. Unfortunately, they are very unheard of and they aren't in stores. You can't find their lyrics on any site, but their music is on MySpace, Rhapsody, iTunes, etc.

      Here is their MySpace:

Q Public's profile including the latest music, albums, songs, music videos and more updates.

I really love the song Bedroom Light, and two others that I would recommend hearing on their MySpace are Papercuts and With One Wish (but I can see why people would like Andy as well). and one other thing that they do on their CD's is they have prelude tracks for songs (like that it goes with the other song, but it isn't exactly the same kind of song). For instance, there is a prelude track to Bedroom Light called Front Porch, which is a nice acoustic riff.

They have released two CD's, their first one being a little more generic and same-sounding than the other one, but both are fantastic in my opinion. Here are their full two albums on Rhapsody:

      http://www.rhapsody.com/qpublic/qpublic

Alongside 110+ million songs, Napster is home to hundreds of thousands of official music videos. Whether you’re streaming on demand or listening offline, enjoy all content ad-free.

Also their only music video for the song "Stop":

I really advise everybody to listen to them and give them a chance. Again, you can do 30 second previews of them on iTunes, and there may be other sites where you can hear other songs. My recommendations are:

      - Bedroom Light (with Front Porch prelude track)
      - Something Someday (with Shine prelude track)
      - Papercuts
      - Things I've Seen
      - If
      - You Told Me
      - Green Graffiti
      - Make Believe
      - Stop
      - With One Wish
      - Candle (with Dust prelude track)
You can find their second album on PureVolume:

      http://www.purevolume.com/albums/qpublic/bedroomlight

And I also created a Guitar Hero track for their song New Shoes:

Please give these guys a listen!

        Re: The "Other" Music Thread

        Good thread.

October is full of good releases for me.

        Emery - "I'm Only A Man" (10/2)
The Spill Canvas - "No Really, I'm Fine" (10/2)
Say Anything - In Defense Of The Genre" (10/23)
Coheed and Cambria - "Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV Volume 2: No World For Tomorrow" (10/23)

However, from the 2 or 3 songs I've heard from Emery, I'm not going to lie...it's total garbage. It's like they just said '**** it', and just randomly started playing instruments. It's disappointing to say the least.

As far as Say Anything, I'm pumped. They're going with a double disc concept album. Total of 27 songs.

        Disc One:
        1. Skinny, Mean Man
        2. No Soul
        3. That is Why
        4. Surgically Removing the Tracking Device
        5.This is ****ing Ecstasy
        6. The Church Channel
        7. Shiksa (Girlfriend)
        8. Baby Girl, I'm a Blur
        9. ******** in Love
        10. People Like You are Why People Like Me Exist
        11. Died a Jew
        12. An Insult to the Dead
        13. Sorry, Dudes, My Bad

        Disc Two:
        1. Spay Me
        2. In Defense of the Genre
        3. The Truth is, You Should Lie with Me
        4. The Words You Wield
        5. Vexed
        6. About Falling
        7. You're the Wanker if Anyone Is
        8. Spores
        9. We Killed It
        10. Have at Thee!
        11. Hangover Song
        12. Goodbye Young Tutor, You've Now Outgrown Me
        13. I Used to Have a Heart
        14. Plea

No offense, but why would I listen to a band where the only thing I know is what they look like?

I'm not interested, but a description would be nice.

The picture is a link, and my thread is a link (I described them there).

No offense, but your mouse is there for moving.

But yes, I'll describe them in a second (or repost my old first post in that other thread).

Didn't realize Coheed and Say Anything had new CDs coming out this month.

I'll have to get my hands on those.

I'm listening to Paramore's "Riot" album right now. Shockingly, I heard the song "Misery Business" on the NHL 08 soundtrack and thought it was cool. They're halfway decent pop punk, and I like that genre...

I was never really into them, but after randomly seeing Misery Business music video, I downloaded Riot. It's a very good album. Probably in my top five albums of 2007. I think Hayley Williams has a great voice and IMO one of the cutest girls in music (hence my avatar for a while).

Fences, We Are Broken and CrushCrushCrush are my three favorites besides Misery Business.

Yeah, I'm surprised I like music from a game soundtrack honestly...I don't have any real favorites yet, have only listened through twice (while working, so not fully paying attention). Gotta give it some time, but if I actually don't mind listening through the entire cd it's a good sign.

Been listening to All That Remains lately, there on guitar hero for the song "Six". Also listened to the new Motion City Soundtrack Cd for about a week, over it already though.
