    Tivo users

Just have a quick question about my hardware. Last night the tivo was recording the Pats/Bengals game and just froze for no reason. Wasn't even using it other than it recording.

Could this be a hardware problem that I should get checked out, or maybe a Bengals fan in denial?
I don't like the Yankees, I like the Red Sox, I don't like the Lakers, I like the Celtics, I hate the Canadiens and I love the Bruins. Soccer is the best sport on Earth, but most Americans are too ignorant to realize it. I am American.

You may have had something higher up on your list than the game that needed to be recorded as well, so it superseded your game.

If not that, then something is wrong with your HD or recorder.

In Tivo's user agreement, it states "If you attempt to record a Bengals and or Raiders game, your Tivo box will cease to function normally or it may start to smell like the Black Hole".

Sometimes you need to read the fine print.

Sorry for the shrapnel Raider fan, um,,, well no I'm not!

Maybe your hard drive is full?

Sometimes tivos freeze. Has nothing to do with your drive being full.

It could be an early indication your hard drive is failing, or it could just be a random crash. I'd lean towards a random crash until it starts happening again and again.

Some things you can check. Listen if the hard drive has become very loud, could be that the hard drive may be dying as mudtiger mentioned. Make sure the fan is working, just stick you hand over it in the back.

Also check to see if the system is operating in the normal temperature range, it’s in the system information menu. May be full of dust bunnies and due for a cleaning with canned air. Pretty easy to open up a series 1 or 2 with a torx bit, haven’t messed with a series 3 or Tivo HD. If your Tivo is still under warranty you may not wanna go that route tho.

Wow, after reading all of these, you need to treat tivo as if it were your computer.

              QFT.

I've had mine for over three years now and though it's given me several problems, usually a restart does the trick. As of today, I haven't had an issue in over a year.
