Megan Williams: The Story You NEED To Read
I just got this in an email. I usually don't even look at forwards like that but this is something that I definitely had to put on the boards so at least someone could see it. I won't go into detail but this shows how sick society can be. Even more, it shows how horrible our system is.

Yes, please. These people need to suffer for the rest of their pathetic lives.
One thing I've never understood though, what is the point of labeling something a "hate crime"? Wouldn't any type of case like this, no matter the race of the victim, be the same? It just seems pointless to me.Comment

Re: Megan Williams: The Story You NEED To Read
No, it wouldn't. I'm someone who is sick of the race card being pulled all the time... But THIS was racially driven. I understand what you are saying.. The victim is scarred for life no matter what... But hate crimes yield a harsher penalty than their non-hate crime counterparts. If you kill someone, you face a murder charge... If you kill someone because of a prejudice, you face a murder with special circumstances(hate crime) charge, which leads to a stiffer penalty if convicted.Comment

Re: Megan Williams: The Story You NEED To Read
One thing I've learned and seen first hand is that some people are just pure evil. People always try to find the good, and claim everyone is good at heart, or in this articles say they "didn't know there were people like that out there"...but they are naive and ignorant. Some human beings, due to upbringing, genetics, addictions, mental instabilities, or some other reason are just horrible creatures.
I think the fact that it's white vs. black brings it to light more, but people have been doing this to other people for thousands of years, and often use race/sex/religion/etc... as the reason.- The true measure of a man is how he treats someone who can do him absolutely no good.Comment

Re: Megan Williams: The Story You NEED To Read
I understand that, and I understand that this was racially driven, but is labeling something a hate crime going to deter other people from committing the same act? I saw someone on Real Time with Bill Maher make the argument that making certain crimes hate crimes is necessary because some people believe violence against particular groups is not wrong. But I would be shocked if there is any kind of report that shows people are less likely to commit a crime because they know they would be committing a hate crime. No, it wouldn't. Re: Megan Williams: The Story You NEED To Read
I kinda disagree with the idea of hate crime enhancements. I believe that in a society that is trying to rid itself of intolerance and racism...why play to the bad guy? Murder is murder. Rape is rape. Kidnapping is kidnapping. Torture is torture. I don't care if you are white, black, brown, yellow, or green...a human is a human. I think the penalties for such crimes should be so stiff that an "enhancement" isn't needed. No, it wouldn't. I'm someone who is sick of the race card being pulled all the time... Re: Megan Williams: The Story You NEED To Read
I doubt it makes others think about not doing it if they want to do it... But those that do actually do it, they get hit with MUCH harsher penalties, and deservedly so.Comment

Re: Megan Williams: The Story You NEED To Read
Just hit everyone with the harsher penalties though. Like Matt said, murder is murder, rape is rape, etc.
Edit: But it's not really that big of deal, just as long as the bad guys go to jail.Comment
