Can't stand Keyshawn, not even when he was a player. Why no Shannon Sharpe, he deserves my hate as well with that Mushmouth-speak.

Cant stand Berman and Collinsworth. Wish I could have also voted for Stuart Scott and Steven A. Smith, I cant stand either one of those guys as well.

I'm looking forward to the next poll... most of these guys I can tolerate.

What we need is a bracket... a Who's Not Now of announcers. I bet the ratings on that would skyrocket.

IMO, Walton is the John Madden of NBA announcing.

For me it's not his political views but rather the manner in which he presents himself. It's easy to sit behind a desk and bash people. That's what he tends to do. It comes across as a very angry hateful person.

I didn't vote for anybody on that list as I like most of them. What about guys like Randy Cross who I can't stand? Rod Woodson is absolutely terrible on the NFL Network as well. I guess everyone has their own tastes.

This poll, and the write-in nominees in follow-up posts, is proving one thing: There aren't many good announcers in major professional sports in America.

I can only think of a few guys who are simply superb, and most of them aren't in what are considered "major" stick-and-ball sports in the U.S.:

Greg Gumbel-Phil Simms (NFL) -- the best NFL broadcasting team.

Joe Buck-Troy Aikman-Daryl Johnston (NFL) -- the only guys on Fox worth anything.

Jim Hughson (NHL) -- promoted to lead announcer on "Hockey Night in Canada" with good reason. He's the best.

Ralph Strangis-Daryl Reaugh (NHL) -- the Dallas Stars' team. Strangis calls a solid game, and Razor is insightful and hilarious.

Ray Ferraro (NHL) -- for my money, "Chicken Parm" is the most insightful, honest analyst in hockey.

Dan Schulman-Len Elmore (college hoops) -- the most underrated team on ESPN, by far. They do a GREAT job on Big East games. Schulman is understated and calls a good game, and Elmore is very, very smart, insightful and offers excellent analysis without trying to attract too much attention to himself.

Joe Tessitore-Teddy Atlas ("Friday Night Fights") -- the best announcing tandem in ANY sport on U.S. television. Period. These guys are pure gold.

Phil Liggett-Paul Sherwen (cycling) -- probably the second-best announcing pair behind Tessitore and Atlas. Unbelievable knowledge, sense of timing and control.

Mike Joy-Darrell Waltrip-Larry McReynolds (NASCAR) -- Fox's broadcast team is so much better than NBC and ESPN's that it's comical. I wish Fox had every NASCAR race.

Bob Varsha-David Hobbs-Steve Matchett (F1) -- these guys are superb on Speed. The best combination of knowledge, insight, opinion and humor. There is no better racing broadcasting team in America.

But honestly, there really aren't many good American sports announcers.

                            Take care,
                            PK

Not politics for me as there are some on the left that I can listen to and don't have a problem with. I just think Oberman is a smug, arrogant SOB. My dislike dates back to when he was hosting Sportscenter.

                              I voted Oberman and Collinsworth.

I can see that, though some of the critcism of him is as overblown as that of other commentators like O'Reilly, etc.
