    Directv HD DVR

I m finally looking to upgrade my home to Hd by Thanksgiving. I got Directv this past June and need them to come out and give me a HD satelite and DVR and receiver. I was told it was 299 for the HD DVR and 99 for the HD receiver.

Basically Im trying to get this as cheap as I can considering I still have to buy the TVs. Does anyone know if they will have any deals for the holidays for existing customers or Im basically just going to have to suck it up and spend the money? I really do like Directv, had Comcast before Directv and hated it. So my only choices are Directv and Dish.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just tell them you have Comcast and that why should you pay $$$ for a HD DVR when comcast gives you one for free? (Don't they?) Just pretend you arent interested and they may give you more offers..

Before you shell-out any money find-out from Directv what happens to the box/boxes if you chose to cancel your service with them. I had Directv(5 years) & was told that If I upgraded to an HD DVR, I would:

      1. Have to purchase the Box
      2. If I canceled my service, I would have to send the DVR back to Directv or be charged for it.

      Bye, Bye Directv, Hello Cablevision

Yeah, they are leased boxes you pay for. If you were an orig customer all you have to do is say your leaving for cable and they'll give em out for free usually..

Im going to try that, has anyone got them totally free? I don't mind paying something, but 400 bucks for something thats not mine is crazy.

I got mine for free (19.99 "shipping charge") in addition to 6 months free HD service. I just called and said I was considering canceling and going to cable. I was suprised they budged considering I am still under contract. It all depends on the CSR you get on the phone. You may have to call back a few times to get a decent deal.

I have been with Dish Network for a few years now and just recently switched to HD. I was charged $149 for the receiver which included installation. I get a $100 credit although it is a $10 credit on my bill for 10 months. It costs an additional $20 a month for HD with DN but for the first six months their is no $20 charge. To sum it up I got an HD DVR receiver installed for $49 and 6 months of HD programming free.

Not a bad deal at all.
