I thought the show was good. That Jason Ray story was touching, it almost teared me up. And that usually doesn't happy with TV shows/movies.

Nichols is a terrible interviewer. I've never seen her ask anything other than a cliched question. She's also big on the "I talked to (insert coach's or athlete's name), and he told me ... " Uh, no sh*t, honey: That' s your job as a reporter -- to talk with sources and report on it. You don't need to remind us of the mechanics of your job.

Plus her breathless histrionics and mannerisms, as if a banal, cliched interview with a jock or coach is breaking news, are incredibly annoying.

Name me one big story Nichols has broke on ESPN. Thank you.

Now, name me one big story Simmons has broken on ESPN. You can't, because he hasn't. Simmons doesn't even report for ESPN -- he's a sports humor columnist for Page 2 on ESPN.com.

Again, if Simmons is used in an Andy Rooney-type role, then he'll be excellent. Anything else, and we'll get the regurgitated Boston sports love and dopey pop culture references from Simmons that became old about two years ago. Like most columnists, Bill loves Bill. But unlike most columnists, he does a lousy job of hiding it, as nearly all of his columns come off as: "Hey, read me. Aren't I gifted? Aren't I funny?"

If this ESPN show is designed to be a serious news magazine, ESPN can do a LOT better than Nichols and Simmons.

Christ, the responses to Nichols' participation in this thread illustrate her lack of reporting skills. Not one guy here has said, "Wow, that Rachel Nichols is a damn good reporter," but many have said, "Man, I'd like to tap her," or something akin to that.

      'Nuff said.

      Take care,

Yeah Michael Smith knows what he's talking about and he looks exactly like Muhammad Ali.

PK, it looks like they are going to end up using Simmons in an Andy Rooney type role on the show. I never figured he would be a reporter on the show and I figured they would use him in a comedy type role, because that is what he does best.

I liked the story on the Fielder's because I never really heard Cecil's story and it was interesting to see that Prince told him to leave the ballpark after he wanted to congratulate him after the game.

The story of the show by far was the story of UNC's mascot Jason Ray. That was just an excellent and very touching story.

Also Bill Simmons has to be one of the most awkward guys on camera I've seen. Plus his voice is kind of annoying.

Who was the reporter for the Jason Ray story? I hope it was Wayne Drehs, who wrote a SUPERB piece on Ray's tragic death for ESPN.com's E-TICKET feature last weekend.

              http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/etick...page=rayofhope

If it wasn't Drehs, then that's a joke. Nice to see ESPN ripping off ESPN for its content. A complete regurgitation job.

What a joke. I didn't see it, but she probably just ripped off everything Drehs reported and wrote so beautifully.

Why couldn't Drehs report it on the air? Because he's sort of goofy-looking, to be frank, and that doesn't fit the ESPN TV mold of "Ken and Barbie" on the air:

Even though it's Drehs' story and he did a wonderful job on it, of course ESPN must shuttle the story for TV to a chick "reporter."

                    What a farce.

I dunno, John Clayton is pretty weird looking and he gets face time. Granted, I haven't seen him much on TV lately these days.

It does suck that the guy who wrote such a great story doesn't get a chance to present it on TV but that's life in this cosmetic age.

I honestly feel bad for the guy.

He gets ridiculed so much on ESPN. He must feel like he is in High School all over again. He's still picked on like the nerdy kids from school.

Clayton is arguably the best pure reporter on ESPN. So hopefully he gets the last laugh.
