    Computer Help (Audio Problem)

I recently reinstalled Windows XP. I do so periodically just to get rid of all the crap that my computer gets over a few months. Anyway, I reinstalled XP a few days ago and now my external speakers will not work. I've never had this problem after reinstalling XP. I also have Service Pak 2 if that makes any difference. I go to the control panel and audio devices and it says "no audio device found" which is impossible since my speakers are plugged in and on. Its really frustrating having no sound and no music so any help would be awesome!

Sounds like the driver for your sound card is not installed. Right click on My Computer, go to properties then click on hardware tab then select device manager. I'm betting there will be a yellow exclamation point next to your sound card. Reinstall the driver and it should work fine.

I went into the device manager and under "Sounds, video, and game controllers" it had the following:

      Audio Codecs
      Legacy Audio Drivers
      Legacy Video Capture Devices
      Media Control Devices
Realtek AC'97 Audio (is that my card?)
      Video Codecs

All showed a little speaker symbol and NONE had an exclamation point next to them.
