    Getting rid of Vista

My girlfriend bought a laptop that came with Vista. Even though its a higher end computer, it gets very slow sometimes. She wants XP instead of Vista but Ive heard that when you install XP, it might screw up your PC.

Has anyone gone back to XP from Vista.

I can't say I have heard of that before. My laptop came with Vista and I have XP installed as well, works fine. When you install a 2nd OS on your system you can select which one to run when you boot your PC up, so it's not like it would replace vista.

I have 2 machines with vista and they run great. Make sure you go over the optimization tips that you can get from searching on the web. One of the bigger performance killers is the search indexing service. Turn that off and you should see a significant boost in performance. I digress.

I have had one machine go from vista to xp, but it was a complete format then fresh install.

That's not true. There's no reason XP can't run on a computer that Vista was already on (clean format though).

I agree with Bacardi though. I have Vista on the laptop I'm using right now and like it. It took a while to get used to and I had to do some optimization to get it to run smoother, but now it runs well.

Not to hi-jack this thread but are these the optimizations you did to get it running smoother?

I have 2 machines with VISTA, one is a laptop running with 512mb of ram and you notice some slowdown. I upgraded my desktop a few months ago to 3GB of Ram and it helped a lot. I would also check the sites out that everyone is recommending for optimizing VISTA.
