How hard is it to come up with a new idea in Hollywood? (Seriously)

Man, looks like the horror genre is even more bankrupt when it comes to ideas then the rest of Hollywood which is saying A LOT.

Actually there's a documentary from a couple years ago about the rise and fall of the slasher sub-genre. I haven't seen it but i'm sure this point may have been raised.

Chucky is pretty cool. The Child's Play movies are the only horror movies i've ever really liked a lot (other then the Freddy Kruegger movies) The problem is, that movie series went down the drain with the last couple films. Oh well.

There are originals everywhere. Hollywood doesn't want them.

Production Companies are going with these cult classics and remaking them because of source material. It's the same reason we see Hero movies being made all over the place. And why graphic novels are the next hot thing. One: They make money. Two: They make money because they already have an audience.

Source Material gets a movie made over an original idea probably 90% of the time, if not more.

A new Chucky movie will cost tens of millions of dollars and make a good hundred millions of dollars. Production wins. Fans write negative reviews and then spend their money on the next remake. Production wins again.
