It's not. I think the British version is VERY funny; I think the U.S. version isn't as funny.

Simple as that. Sorry that an opinion is perceived as "bashing." Touchy-touchy.

Why is it that every person who insists that the British version of The Office is better than the American one has either watched 5 minutes of the show or only saw "a few" episodes from the first season?

Because their minds were made up before the US version even aired.

Pretty sad really, because they're both great shows in their own ways. I prefer all the side character development and the cast of the US version myself, but there's certainly something to be said for the dryer British version (specifically Gervais' portrayal of David Brent). I think all the over-the-top sex jokes in the British version kind of put me off just like the over-the-top Michael breakdowns/tantrums do in the US version. Just different tastes I guess.

But yeah, at least give the show a chance (and the first season of the US series the weakest by far, aside form being only 6 episodes) before you come on here and flat-out say the the British version is better. In terms of content, the US version has far surpassed the British version simply because it had a chance. The UK version ended too soon and then they tacked on the Christmas special and called it a series -- I think the US version will have a better chance for a proper wrap-up that isn't forced on the producers due to fan outcry.

You guys arguing about the British vs. the American version of the show would be something that Jim would goof on you about. He would probably convince you that the Indonesian version is 10x as hilarious as both combined and send you on a crazed blackmarket DVD underground search where it doesn't really exist.
