Had to go with the Black Star. Brown Skin Lady, Respiration, Thieves in the Night.. wow. Also, I have no idea what album it's off of, but the track "Beautiful" with Mary J. Blige on the chorus is another all-time favorite. Bastards need to give us another album NOW

I think these albums should get some mention too

"The Infamous" - the best rap song ever on this album

            "Supreme Clientele" -

The summer of 1987 was crazy both criminal minded and paid in full came out in 87.

Criminal Minded is my pick. Before gangster hip hop it was my 9 mm. 20 years later hip hop is still feeding off the energy of that album for both positive and negative results. The album also place Kris as the don't mess me or I would end your career mc. MCs are still shook to battle or speak against KRIS even 20 years later.

Paid in Full is a close number 2. How many mcs try to mimic rakim flow and lyrics. I always considered Nas to be the son of Rakim.

It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back. The noise concept and Chuck D lyrics made this an all time favorite of mines. I don't think hip hop will ever produce the energy of this album. This is the album that put consciousness on the block in the time of crack wars. Tons of people stop wearing gold and started rocking African patches and beads. Those were the days.

Ready to Die. No one communicated the feeling of fear in his music plus Biggie voice and flow was special.

Good catch...replace that with Tuff Crew's Danger Zone, the most slept on classic I know of. I broke the rewind button on my boom box f'n with that joint. (Philly peeps recognize)

Preach, man. There may never be another group as powerful, and yet balanced as PE. That album was more than just music, you hit that one on the head.

In retrospect, Hip Hop has given me so much over my lifetime.

Pete rock and CL Smooth's mecca and the soul Brother... you are not a true hip hop fan if you don't include that in your poll along with brand Nubian's One for All.

I put The Chronic above Doggystyle because The Chronic had one of the greatest hip-hop songs ever in Nuthin but a "G" Thang.
