A buddy of mine is selling alot of his DVDs, anyway ive heard good things about the wire, but he has seasons 2 and 3....is it easy to pick up on if you miss the first?

Great series, as a matter of fact I watched the first three seasons on DVD and the fourth on "ON DEMAND" in less than a month. Find some way to watch the 1st season before you look at 2 & 3. Some video stores will rent them if you don't want to buy it.

Definitely catch the first season. I got into the series through Netflix. Takes a while doing it that way, however.

Season 2 has a completely different storyline than Season 1, although many of the cops are the same. But Season 3 returns to ground covered in Season 1, so you really need to see Season 1 as context for Season 3.

Plus a show as good as the "The Wire" is a rare gem that should be savored, not just watched. It's the best show on TV and one of the best shows ever.

Watch every episode you can!

My favorite show of all time. Don't miss season 1 because this show is about the characters and you can't miss any developement of these characters. Though not my favorite season, every episode is important.

Anyone know if the writers strike is going to affect The last season of the Wire?

Season 4 comes out on dvd on December 4. I think season 5 starts January 6 or 8. whichever is a sunday.

My favorite show of all time. Storytelling at its best. There is no filler and every episode builds on the one before it. But it is most definitely better if you see season 1 first.

Thanks for the tip -- I normally snatch up everything I can find about this show, but I'll make sure to steer clear of that one. Best show ever.

And yeah, definitely watch the first season -- (obviously) it sets up everything for the rest of the series and is just really great TV. The third season would really ring hollow if you hadn't watched the first because it's the true continuation. Season two, as people have said, it almost a total departure from the previous season, but I still think it's worth seeing season 1 first before watching it.

Can't wait for the new episodes.
