A little Bodom... I know I will get some crap for this one, if there any blabbermouth followers.Last edited by Jon22; 11-17-2007, 08:42 PM.Comment

Re: Rock singers screaming
I used to love bodom when I was in high school. Me and my friends anxiously awaited a full US tour that never came. Now they've gained enough stardom that they can tour the states fairly successfully. I still like them, but they haven't been able to come close to matching the excellence that is "Hatebreeder."
And screw the folks over at blabbermouth, they embody the worst of the metal scene. If you talked to all of those guys in '99 they would have told you bodom was one of the best bands out there that no one knew. Now that they're popular (as popular as a metal band from Finland can be) they snub their noses at them. I'm surprised Opeth has been able to avoid the same fate.Comment

Re: Rock singers screaming
...And speaking of Opeth, how have they been able to avoid having a video posted in this topic? One of the more dynamic singer/bands in music today. A long song, but if you want to just get a hint of what I mean listen to the beginning then fast forward to the 6 minute mark and listen for a bit.

Re: Rock singers screaming
Believe me, that's a good thing for metal. Metallica's best music was before they gave a crap about album sales. When you know, going in that you're just selling to your core fan base you don't stray from what you are.
Metal is meant to be underground. If everybody all of a sudden likes it, or "gets it", then you know there's something wrong.PSN: JISTIC_OS

Re: Rock singers screaming
Until you've gone to a metal show and sat in front of the bass drums, you can't really appreciate it. Like isaid, I'm not walking around listening to Dying Fetus and Cryptopsy, but I can appreciate what they do. And you can understand the lyrics on good recordings for most metal bands if you have the ear for it. The super-guttural stuff is really hard to get for the average person, but my metalhead friends can understand basically everything.
This is some of the more extreme end of the metal scene... the drummer is absolutely bananas:

And it really depends on the band and the quality of the singer also -- some guys do sound like they have a sock stuffed in their mouth. And as far as understanding the lyrics, I really don't think that's important to enjoy music, especially metal. Let's be honest, most of these guys aren't writing great lyrics -- the vocals are there mroe as a sonic element rather than storytelling or melody like in other forms of music. It's just a whole different animal.
How the hell do you embed videos on this site? They never work with the YoutTube embed code... I've asked probably 20 times and never get a response...Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: Rock singers screaming
*BOO* whoever said lyrics don't really matter. The music where lyrics are just an extra part of the sound is music i don't need to waste time with. If you're going to sing/rap/whatever, make it worthwhile, otherwise i'd rather listen to the musicians without your mumbo jumboComment
