ps3 - SDTV video problem

OK, on an SDTV, my buddy's got the ps3 hooked up via component cable. 2k sports games all show up in widescreen ... even tho his SDTV is 4:3. It's like this for APF and NBA2k8.

I've gone into the settings and stuff, fooled around with the video options but nothing's working. Very frustrating actually.

Anyone have this display problem with 2k games/ps3/sdtv?

I don't have a fix for you, unfortunately, but I would ask: Why do you have a problem with this? Back before I had a HDTV, playing NCAA sucked because I couldn't see the WRs. If there had been a way to play the game in letterbox, it would have been great.

I remember people complaining about this with MLB 2K6. There was no fix.

Quite frankly, if I had the chance to, back in the day, sacrifice having black bars on my screen for widescreen presentation while gaming, I would take it. You just have more to see... even though it's not quite as large.

eh. At home I play an xbox 360 on a widescreen hdtv so it's not a huge problem. I just can't stand going over during lunch break at work and playing on his crappy sdtv with all 2k sports games displaying in widescreen ... goofy. oh well. thanks tho.
