Determines where you live and how much family you have. I make a little less than 40 thousand a year, but I do not have a family yet so I live very comfortably while having the ability to have a healthy 401 K and plenty in my bank account.

When I was making 40 grand a year, a 700 dollar TV was considered expensive. 40 grand isnt dirt poor.

You don't have to spend 700 to get a decent HDTV either though....I guess you do if you're wanting a big screen but i'm just talking about a regular sized TV which is fine for most people.

With the exception of Black Friday deals most decent sized HDTVs (23 inches and up) will cost you 400 bucks and up. Thats not even counting the fact that you will most likely have to upgrade your cable/satellite equipment if you want to actually watch HD television. Converting to HD isnt cheap and thats why the majority of the country hasnt converted yet. In a ffew years it will be though.

Absolutely depends on where u live. In the Washington DC area, you can pretty much forget about a 401k only making 40 grand a year,

That's the great thing about AL and MS. With my parents' salaries here in Alabama, we're upper class. But in California, we're middle class.

Indeed. My cost of living is so low it is almost wrong. I'm incredibly cheap to, so it helps as well. I purchased the 32 inch Emerson LCD off of Ebay yesterday. Paid $456 for the TV and shipping and would have paid around $586 if I just simply purchased it from WM. So I'm proud of myself

I have 3... 23'' Samsung LCD in the bedroom, a 50'' Samsung 1080p DLP in family room, and a 32" Westinghouse LCD in the living room.

Same here in LA... and my salary is similar to Rainey's but I also have a family.

Yet and still i've been blessed to get 3 hdtv's

a 19 in lcd
a 42 in plasma
a 52 in rptv

its not cheap to have HD, but since im mostly home, i figured i should enjoy it while im here because i dont go blowing money partying.

HDTV is vital for life. Well that is if sports or sports gaming is a big part of your life; I think it's blasphemy to watch or play a football/basketball game standard. It's not an easy purchase, but HD's are attainable if you put your mind to it. Instead of going to the movies or eating out for a couple months, just put it away. There's so many good deals out there it's hard to believe if you have a job you wouldn't be able to buy one eventually.

I got a circuit city ad today for a 20" HDTV for $199. I know you said with the exception of Black Friday deals but I don't know why you'd exclude them since those are deals that the people who are short on money should be looking for. My only point is that HDTV's aren't this expensive luxury people are making them out to be. If you have a job and can save some money chances are you can have an HDTV if you make that decision.
