I disagree that the situation was hopeless. They could have jumped in another vehicle, leeached gas off another vehicle, or even tried to walk.

LMAO!!!! Again, you're making absolutely no attempt at all to put yourself in the character's position. You saw what they went through just to GET TO the car in the first place, right? Why in the hell would they then get out to walk??? To them, the car is the safest place to be. You don't watch people get torn in half, get eaten by carnivorous bird-beasts, attacked and killed by other-dimension spider beasts, drive under a 200ft monster and then deem it safe enough to walk around in miles of seemingly endless mist - mist that you know is infested with the aformentioned creatures - without a destination and only four rounds of ammunition.

You're only suggesting laughably risky and life-threatening alternatives because you're looking at it from the perspective of the all-knowing movie audience. That's why, to YOU, the situation wasn't hopeless...because you know how it all ends.

I absolutely loved the movie. As others have said, it is a very bleak film. It's quite possibly the most depressing film I've ever seen. I do, however, think that some of the acting was poor (not all).

As for The Punisher killing his son, et al, I understand why he did it. Like most have said, he (as well as everyone else in the car, sans the boy) felt all hope was lost, and that suicide was the best decision. I don't know if I would have done that, as I would have waited a while longer; I would have either waited until tons of monsters starting coming towards the vehicle, or when I was in agony due to starvation/dehydration. It would be best to wait it out to see if the mist cleared (as it did), but that's easy for me to say now that I know what happened.

I didn't see any threads for this movie, so I thought I should start one.

Did anyone else see this movie over the weekend?!?!

The ending of the movie simply blew me away...don't want to spoil it.

What's everyone else's thoughts on it?

It was different from the books:

In the book they simply drive on into the mist hoping to find salvation.
Also, the main guy never got to see if his wife was alive or not. The road to his house was blocked by some fallen trees and there were spider webs all over the property. He just assumed she was dead.

Seems as though if the book ending were translated onto screen, many people would not have appreciated it as much. I thought the theatrical ending was pretty good.

I watched this movie today and I loved and hated it. I loved the ending for what it made me feel. I hated the movie because it made me get really upset with a movie character (carmondy). I don't think I've ever hated a movie character more than her.

I have to ask one question though. Was Carmondy right? After they died the mist receded.

I don't like to think she was right about anything. I hated the character so much. Not that she was written poorly; in fact, she was probably one of the better written movie characters of all time. I've never felt such strong emotions toward a movie character before in my life, lovingly or not.

I can agree with that.

I have never wanted to go through my screen and kill a character more than I did with her. I actually felt a very, very strong hatred for her and I don't think I've ever felt that way with a movie character before.
