HD DVD has entry-level players priced lower than blu-ray. For entry level, you are really hurt on both formats. The HD DVD entry level players only do 1080i, and blu-ray entry players lack the FW for more advanced BD-J features for titles being released as early as December.

Both formats offer 5 free movie rebate deals. For the record, Toshiba and the HD DVD Promotions Group started the five free movie deal in the spring.

You can find movies for both as low as $9.99. Need help? No Problem.

Both formats will be around for a while.

I think pointing him to the BD/HD-DVD thread would help out since we all post all the up to the minute online/B&M deals as they are released. Just like Amazon over the weekend with the B2G1 free deal on both formats, that came out to about $13.50 a movie which you can't even find some of their DVD counterparts that low.

JayBee, the HD-DVD A3 has been as low as $149 at some places......even lower price of $99 at Fry's a month ago for 1 day only.

You obviously weren't buying DVD's back when players hit the market like I did in 1997. My first player was $1200. I actually still own it too, works like a charm. The Sony DVP S7000.
I guess you jumped on right away, I waited about 1.5- 2 years at the time when players hit the $400 mark. My Toshiba DVD player lasted a long time, up until 2 years ago when my son broke it...........or else that thing would probably still be going today. Only drawback was that it didn't play DVDR's too well.

I got the Sony the same day it hit stores. Best Buy had 4 DVD's, Batman, Desperado and 2 other movies I don't even remember.

That is cool. Let's hope that BD/HD-DVD last this long........or even 1 of these formats coming out the winner to fully enjoy the HD era of DVD's.

Yeah, and I buy stuff for my HD-DVD player, but I'm also a little hesitant...I don't want to end up being the guy who bought a bunch of Beta tapes or Laserdisc disks....you know? I think both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD people just want one to win so we know the future...until then people who have each side will be slow to fully switch over.

One day, you're gonna sit down and realize how much you've spent on electronics. You sir are an addict (and I'd love to be in your position!)

I spent yesterday planning a dedicated home theater if I ever get enough money to put it into a new house LOL

LOL, well, I was in the market for a laserdisc player for 2 years, and then DVD started getting talk. So I held out. I paid cash for it all, and to this day still use the player. I don't feel it was a bad investment at all. I was single at the time, no commitments and I don't party. So my money went to movies at home

As I've said many times, electronics, I spend a long time studying what I want and I hold on to it for a long time. My TV is 4 years old and will be my set for many years to come most likely.
