Re: Another Messed up Story
But the point that you're missing is that the woman KNEW she had a psychiatric problem. Yes, she probably shouldn't have an account on myspace, but you know what? Parents can't regulate everything kids do.Then you, my friend, have mental issues as bad as the girl who killed herself.
Is it messed up? Without a doubt! Should adults hold themselves to higher standards? Most definitely. Should anyone be held accountable because someone that doesn't have all their marbles kills themselves because you call them bad names? Hell ****in no!
It doesn't surprise me that most of America wants charges pressed and the woman arrested, even though she did NOTHING against the law. Morally wrong? Sure, that's obvious. Anything illegal? No, not really. But then again, this is the country where parents aren't held accountable for their children anymore. The sue-happy country where everyone slaps a lawsuit on someone because they won't own up to their own ****-ups.
The girl's parents messed up. First off, a 13 year old should NOT be allowed on myspace at all, too much stuff on there. When the parents first saw those kinds of postings, they should have blocked the other user. Then, the girl should have been having some SERIOUS psychiatric help, obviously. Calling a girl a hoochie doesn't make a girl commit suicide if she isn't insane.

Re: Another Messed up Story
What I got out of it was that the girl had an online argument (posting on myspace or wherever), filled with profanity, and the "guy" (evil woman) saying that "the world would be better off without you". Not a death threat, just something really mean to say to someone.
I don't in any way condone what the woman did, it's f'ing wrong...just not illegal. I don't think I could live with myself if I treated people like she did, but all she did was get into an online argument and be really mean.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

I've told people I wished they were dead, I hate you, etc. If that person kills themselves then I should be executed? Granted my situation was more emotional and not intentionally mean, but still...But the point that you're missing is that the woman KNEW she had a psychiatric problem. Re: Another Messed up Story
Being an adult and creating an online relationship with a girl who you know has psychiatric issues and using the relationship to hurt her goes a lot farther than just name calling. Yes, most people get teased about something or other at some point, but clearly you can see the difference in this situation.I'd be pissed, and it was evil and mean. Doesn't mean it's illegal. I've been called names before (hell, 99% of you here probably have too), would they have arrested the namecallers if I (or you) killed ourselves?
This is a very sad thing and should not have happened. But calling someone names isn't murder. Hell, people here on OS have been treated worse by other OS'ers (and look at other online communities). If a poster kills himself, is that murder?
How about how some of you guys have treated a girlfriend? I've seen some guys treat girls like ish...if that girl kills herself, that's murder?
I understand the uproar, but it's just somewhat amusing that everyone here has probably called someone a name, been damn mean to someone, etc."You can not ensure success, but you can deserve it." - John Quincy Adams

And to clarify, I realize there is nothing illegal about it. I just wish she could be formally punished."You can not ensure success, but you can deserve it." - John Quincy Adams

I think the woman who did this is really evil and I can't imagine doing this to someone myself...but all she did was play with someone's mind...Just like what a lot of guys do to women (maybe on antidepressants) they date, lying to get sex and dumping them. What if that girl kills herself? You're just opening a pretty large door when you look at this.
I'm just making points because people want her arrested, executed, whatever...I wish I could kick her ***, but I know she shouldn't go to jail...hopefully whatever afterlife is there makes her pay. Karma is a bitch.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Another Messed up Story
it's really more just sad how much pressure there is on kids in high school nowadays...
A kid at my HS committed suicide my senior year (I knew him in passing, had met him, but didn't know him well)...Other kids (not me, thankfully) teased him, called him gay and other things, and I think he actually was gay and had trouble dealing with the teasing...
People in general (this woman is a crazy massively evil oddity) can just be horrible to each other sometimes.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

And yes, I do. I did a lot of shady **** out of impulse when I was a teen. Never did I ever allow someone calling me names to make me wanna kill myself though.Comment

Re: Another Messed up Story
No, because I've always been one to suck it up. Trust me, this girl lived a posh life compared to mine.
It honestly goes back to the way kids are raised, err, not raised these days. And it isn't all on the parents, it is on the government too. The fact that you can no longer hit your child when they deserve it has drastically changed the parenting dynamic. It makes it a lot harder to parent effectively, and keep your child from becoming a whiney brat.
Kids didn't commit suicide nearly as much back when you could actually parent, because they were toughened by life. When you messed up, you knew it, and you got what was deserved. Kids today have never had to deal with learning lessons the hard way. Today's 'hard way' is taking a 7 year old's cell phone and ipod.Comment
