For those that watched old television shows

How would you compare television from then to now?Wouldn't you say that shows back then allowed you challenged your imagination whereas shows today give you the same predictable plots time after time.

I'm starting to get into alot of old "fantastical" (for lack of a better term) shows like the hitchhiker, amazing stories, kolchak the night stalker(not the crappy remake) and monsters.I just think televison today is really force crap like reality tv and crappy sci fi.There are four shows i really enjoy eureka, burn notice, psych and monk other then that and adult swim i really don't like anything else.

Legends of the Hidden Temple is better than anything that ever has been or ever will be on TV. Answer solved.

Not sure exactly what you mean by old...but I think TV was the best during the 80's/early 90's.

      Cosby
      MacGyver
      Quantum Leap
      Fresh Prince (late 90's)

Just to name a few...but probably 4 of my favorite shows of all time. Probably considered cheesy now-a-days...but I loved them.

One of the best comedy shows of the 80s was NIGHT COURT. That show really opened the door for more raunchy comedy in all mediums IMO.

Wings -- Probably the most underrated sitcom in the history of television, and by far my favorite.

          Also:

          Night Court
          Cheers
          Seinfeld
          Married w/ Children
          Home Improvement
          Perfect Strangers
          Mr. Belvedere
          Coach
          ALF

          Tons more.

TV comedy never was better than in the late 70s with "All in the Family," "The Jeffersons," "Sanford and Son," "Good Times" and "Chico and The Man."

Not only were those shows side-splittingly funny, but they also were so politically incorrect that they forced viewers to think about race in America.

Funny and incisive about the often-polarizing role of race in society without an ounce of political correctness or azz kissing. There's NOTHING on network TV like that today, and there never will be again.

I'm also very partial to the nighttime soaps of the 80s such as "Dallas," "Dynasty" and "Knots Landing," but that's a personal preference. There was superb characterization in those shows that you just don't see in TV dramas today. When is the last time every water cooler in America had talk about a TV drama character like you heard about J.R. Ewing in the "Dallas" season in which he was shot?

            Take care,
            PK

this is just like the environment is worse now than in the 20's stuff. There's more channels and media options, so of course it looks like there's worse content overall.

There's better tv shows now than ever before.

God bless Norman Lear as he and his associates were involved in all those shows (except maybe Chico and the Man but i'm not sure) PC-ness has changed a lot of things. about 10 years ago Lear tried to recapture some of that stuff with a show where a black family moved into Archie's old home. The roles were reversed as the parents were blue collar liberals while the son was a virulent conservative who dated a Jewish girl.

The show had promise IMO but only lasted 6 episodes.

I love "The Andy Griffith Show" but it wasn't challenging at all. Still, it's a classic.

When I watch "Fresh Prince" on Nick at Nite it makes me realize how time has passed by so quickly.

today's TV seems to be pure rubbish... sure, there is an odd show here and there that I will follow, but nothing that really "grabs" you and makes you think..

                            my favorites to watch are:

                            M*A*S*H
                            All in the Family
                            The Jeffersons
                            Dallas
                            Cosby Show
                            Night Court
