What era in the shows history was it? I ask because the last oh 3 or so seasons were downright horrible even in its time. I remembered when the Simpsons first came on the air Cosby complained about how such a crude show was kicking his show's butt in the ratings.

The best era of the Cosby show was when all the kids were young. Those episodes hold up very well IMO.

Personally I feel it was the attempt to address racial issues that hurt the show. The show seemed to take a turn towards the end that had heavy content which included comedy but had a very obvious attempt to address certain prejudices in our society.

This is true, I did like the jazz music heavy episodes as Cosby seemed to want black people to have pride and respect for their cultural history. As for the other social issues I never noticed that as a kid. I think I might have to take a look at some of the later era episodes to catch some of it.

Right on. I didn't even think about that. It was one of the newer ones.

Older Cosby Show is still classic today.

The snake in the basement episode is still my favorite.

My favourite is the episode where Rudi's goldfish dies.

Also one of my fave scenes ever occurs when Cliff is lecturing Theo about the value of money and such. I believe the scene ended with him saying something to the effect of "I brought you into this world boy and i'll take you out!"

There is definitely a LOT more crap on tv today than in the 80's and 90's but I think overall tv is better today than in those decades. Shows like The Shield, Supernatural, Brotherhood, Dexter, Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Heroes, etc are more creative and far often more less predictable than the shows in previous decades. I do love my old shows but I think a lot of people who say those tv shows are better than today's are basing a lot of that off of nostalgia more than anything else.

I think there was one with the older sister's husband and then some with Denise. It could very well be also that the aging of the children didn't allow for Cosby's humor to elevate the way it did when they were younger.

Because of this post, I purposefully went to YouTube to see if I could find an episode of The Six Million Dollar Man that I was thinking of. While watching, I began to think about why for me TV was so different than now.

When I was a pre-teen and teen, I wasn't thinking about who the stars were and their history. I wasn't thinking about how the star of the show never dies and how they'll always be next week. What was realistic for me was that it was very possible that the Russian Deathprobe was unstoppable and that even the bionic man could not stop it. That doesn't happen for me now. My mentality is, "Jack Bauer will not die, he's still too valuable to the show, so this is pointless."

They've been talking about a Quantum Leap movie for about 15 years now. Don't think it's going to happen.
