    Well it looks different... never really saw the cartoon as a kid, so I can't comment if it seems close to source material.

    I'll probably catch it on DVD.

          Er....Well it'll either be a huge bona fide hit or a cult movie in 20 years. Gotta love the villain sounding like a bad english dubbed character.

          It looks like they tried to make a real life anime movie....it just doesn't work IMO.

              I'm not a Speed Racer fan but that looks like ****. Somebody on youtube said that it looks like Spy Kids and I have to agree. Offtopic but Emile Hirsch looks and sounds just like Leonardo Dicaprio.

                      I gotta agree with you guys, this looks terrible, and to the poster that mentioned Spy Kids, thats exactly what I was thinking as I watched the preview. I wont dare to make predictions on how well it will do in the theater since I thought Enchanted looked terrible and it made a bunch of money.

                          The sad thing is Emile Hirsch and Matthew Fox are good actors. Hell I thought I saw John Goodman and Susan Sarandon as well.

                          But yall are right it does look like an anime show come to life.

                                  Never liked the cartoon but that's only because I never thought the concept made sense.

                                  The guy is a racecar driver and he fights villains or something? That doesn't work in film.

                                      Never saw the comics, but IMO this movie is comic-geared. I guess I just didn't see the same trailers as you guys, because I think it was fine. Granted, there's no way in hell I want to see a movie like this, but do you think if the creators of the Matrix trilogy wanted to do something different with the movie's style and effects they would have? It's not "terrible", it's just different. Not my cup of tea, but fans of Spy Kids everywhere will love it.

                                      I hope this is rated PG and not anything higher, though. If it's higher, then I understand where people should complain.

                                          It looks like they're just throwing effects in for the hell of it. I wouldn't care if the effects looked good but this looks awful.

                                              I'm all alone-I thought it captured the over the topness of the cartoon and the cartoon overall very well.

                                                      They don't need to do what they're doing. And I don't see the connection between Speed Racer and special effects, unless you believe that you can't do a movie about someone racing without over the top effects.

                                                          I mean do you want them to go shopping? Again, I haven't seen the cartoons, but I believe I played a game called Speed Racer, and it was rather similar to this. If not, compare it to those Grand Prix cars on Super Smash Bros Melee. I mean I understand the direction that they're going... and if you understand it, you can at least appreciate what they're doing with it.

                                                          Again, I'm not getting anywhere near this movie, so don't think that I'm defining it.
