    The Dan Patrick Show

I am thouroughly enjoying Dan's morning show on the radio on my way to work everyday.

Before he came on, we had to listen to Fred Roggin (which was nice because he had a myriad of great guests), and the knuckleheaded TJ Simers and his lonely daughter whom everyone grew tired of rather quickly. As a matter of fact they went off the air before time.

I can't tell you how many times TJ talked about being glad to be off the air in December, and only to get bagged long before December rolled around.

Back on the subject, I never got wind of why Dan ended up on a different station with his own show. Can anyone enlighten me?

Do you guys listen to his show?

    From wikipedia:
ESPN announced on July 9, 2007 that he would be leaving the network in August 2007. Patrick’s final radio show was broadcast on Friday, August 17, 2007. The mutual agreement allowed Patrick to pursue new interests outside of ESPN and brought to an end his involvement with ESPN’s radio, television and magazine outlets.

From the way he talks, it seems like its more than just a mutual parting.

Im sure he was hard to replace too because if other states and cities have homers on their radio like we do in John Ireland then ESPN lost out big time.

What's his show like? Is he allowed a little more creativity and off the cuff kind of commentary? It seems to me that most, if not all ESPN radio programming is pretty stale with just ESPN type experts The interviews almost always are positive and there's little to no real information gleamed add that to the fact that 90% of the interviews on ESPN radio are pre taped and it adds to the feeling of being stale and canned.

He is not on XM I don't believe. I think you can stream the show from his site.

I liked Dan. The Mike Tirco show is okay, I like it when Van Pelt is guest hosting. I wish he would of got the slot.

Agreed. I used to download Dan's ESPN show to my Ipod. That PodCast is now Mike Tirico's. I like it, but it is better when Van Pelt is with him. But IDK hopefully it will grow on me. I was a huge fan of Dan and Keith together for "The Big Show"

Yeah, here in the DC area he is on between 11 and 1 Mon-Fri. He's pretty good and says some funny stuff, also he gets A level guest almost always.

It's a pretty cool show man. He has tons of guests. Look at the interviews on his site, you can see and hear alot of them there.

Like mentioned earlier, he has alot of A class guests, and Reggie Miller comes on with him every Monday morning talking about everything from football to boxing to basketball to those two joking around with eachother.

His show is far from stale and its his show, so he's as creative as he wants to be although he stays away from the gimmicks. He asks tough questions when need be like when he interviewed a candidate yesterday who is voting for the Heisman winner. He asked some pretty tough questions on why this guy was voting one way or another, it was good stuff.

He's the anti ESPN who has become nothing but hype and drama driven, probably why he left. It's a great show, comes on XtraSports 570am here in LA from 5-9am right before Jim Rome.

Another pretty good talk show host is Bruce Drennan. I have access to Sports Time Ohio and his show is pretty good. It's more or less a call-in show but he seems to be a lot better then most guys as he doesn't cut off his callers and actually has a good dialogue with 'em.

Too bad it's Ohio-centric. I'd like to see his thoughts on more national stories.

I like Czaban a lot on the Sportstalk 980 afternoon drive show he does with Andy Pollin. I like Czaban's outspokenness even though I disagree w/his obvious conservative views from time to time - but when he's the host of a show his personality is a little too overpowering. He and Andy make a great team because of the different personalities and the conflict - but when either's without the other I don't like them as much.

I'm really impressed with the way Dan Patrick interacts with various personalities on his show. He's extremely sharp and seems to really enjoy doing the radio show
HBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period
