Jim, you don't know what you are missing. LSD is great, nothing is better then frying your brain and being a vegetable the rest of your life. Wow, I was born in 71 so I missed the 60's. I am kind of glad I did though, it seems like a lot of scary things happened.

Back to the 60s. I don't think I agree with you that JFKs death changed everything and that we lost our innocence. I think the drug scene/hippie/"turn on, tune in, drop out" thing did more to cause conflict with the traditional people (who were both democrats and republicans) than anything. Just my opinion. Of course the press also liked to stoke every fire that the could (sound familiar?).

I wasn't born until 1968, but everything I've seen or read, makes me believe the 60's were the most pivotal times in US history.

I think the 60s is my favorite time period to study, as a history buff.

While the 60s was interesting and had a lot going on for it. As a history buff I find Europe from 1919 to 1945 a much more interesting time period.

I only really care about the music that started in the 60s. That hippie stuff is not my thing.

I hope you mean the 1860s, man. The Civil War was the defining moment in American history. Our nation never was more in peril.

An old thread that I started a long time ago...but on the History Channel right now is Sex in '69: Sexual Revolution in America. Crazy times...good times.

It sure beats the usual "We Will All Be Dead Soon" shows they have on.

I watched that, and had to chuckle (in a bad way, lol). The reference to "Oh, Calcutta" and them being "artists", I had to say "thank you artists" (in a sarcastic way) and Jim Morrison exposing his penis on stage, "thank you, Jim". Ugh. That was a profound moment and our society is forever grateful.......sigh.

It was like Jim Morrison's band member saying people wanted to be "free". Well, America got it. Not sure it was actually freedom and not sure if it was such a great thing like Morrison's band member lead you to believe. I picked up on the fact that he was very sarcastic with people who were against it, and seemed to present this as a new enlightenment for people and the time. Double ugh, lol.

I think the strangest History Channel documentary I've seen was High Hitler only because they seemed to really sensationalize his dependence on drugs.
