PS3 OR Blue-Ray player

I'm curious for those of you that own a BR player, if you use the ps3 or a stand alone. I am debating which to get. Thanks

Get a PS3. It's the only bluray player as of right now that can be updated. Plus, it apparently plays games too.

I originally bought my PS3 simply as a blu-ray player. I already owned a Xbox360 for gaming. However when my buddies all bought PS3. I switched my gaming to it as well and got rid of the 360. Anyways the PS3 is one of the better blu ray players and as others said is updateable.

Correction: the firmware on blu-ray stand alones can (and have) be upgraded, the specs however cannot be upgraded beyond Profile 1.0.

If you don't care about PiP, internet connection features, and such, why not get a cheap BR stand-alone?

If those things matter, get a PS3, for now.

Well what's "cheap"? That's pretty much what I was going to post: the thing is, even the cheapest BD players are still well in excess of $300, aren't they? Why not just drop a few extra coins and grab a PS3 "with" your BD player?

I was in Sam's Club yesterday and noticed they dropped the price of their Sony Blu-Ray player to $277. I'm tempted but i'd rather spend another $100 and get the PS3.

The cheapest BD players are no longer in excess of $300. Multiple models have dropped to sub $300 prices.

I expect the price divide between base stand-alones and the PS3 to widen.

I figure most 360 owners are content with only that for games, so I would suggest a cheap blu-ray stand-alone.

Doesn't make sense to get a stand-alone if the price is within $100 of a PS3 because of the added functionality that you could get. You get more out of your money if you get the PS3 as opposed to a single BR player. I know which I'd go for in a heart beat.......

No question, a PS3. The Show, and the PS3 games are starting to ramp up, plus it's a fantastic Blu ray player.

The "PS3 plays games?!?" comment is going to get old now... there are some great games for the system, as well as the fact it's an amazing digital media player.

The PS3 wins, hands down. This shouldn't even be a question.

The BWU WAY PWAYER has no chance!! Heck, if everything works out to my benefit, I'll be getting a PS3 within the next year. I'm definitely looking at the old 60 GB that has the BC EMOTION ENGINE chip inside.
