    House's Hugh Laurie

Either I don't know what I'm doing using the site's search engine or something else is up.
Anyway, I am two thirds through the 2nd season of "House" (didn't get the first season) and I just checked out the "Blooper" segment expecting to hear Laurie's English accent appear, but any mistake by him or cast member was met with character House's voice. I then thought that he was born in England and raised in the states but as most of you know that is not true, in fact he was part of the popular "Fry And Laurie" comedy team. I guess he had to keep in character throughout the acting process.Whatever the case Hugh Laurie is a remarkable talent. Here's a clip from "Fry And Laurie".

I read once where most English actors who are portraying an American don't like to go in and out with the accent like that. It's actually kind of tough to get into "American accent" mode and vice versa. Once they get "in that zone", they probably don't want to go back and forth.

Hugh Laurie is amazing. That is all.

And just realized Fry, from that show, is the guy from V For Vendetta. Never noticed that before.

That reminds me of Forrest Whittaker and how he acted just like Idi Amin offset of The Last King of Scotland. When actors have to go totally out of what they're comfortable with they tend to stay "in character" no matter what.

It's not like voice actors I think (who can go in and out a lot easier)...They've got to normally act and talk like normal...how can you act if you're thinking about how you're talking? Pretty cool how good of an accent he does!

I was surprised to see Hugh on SNL because he spoke so English accented. I knew he was from England but I just figured he didn't have much of an accent. Kind of like I lived in Texas for nearly 4 years and never developed that Texas twang.

I honestly don't know how English people put on American "accents". To me most Americans have no accent, I mean an identifiable one. I guess it's just mostly all about dropping your English one.

Americans have no accent to you because you are american. If you were british you would say that you had no accent because your british and that's just how you talk.

Yeah I guess you're right...but for example Americans say "Good morning"...whereas Irish might say "Top o' tha day". How is good morning recognizable as American when we just say it as the words exists, as opposed to the Irish who say things like "o'" instead of "of".

P.S. If the "Top o' tha day" comment is stereotyping Irish, I'm allowed to be, since I'm of Irish heritage...LOL.

To the Irish o just exists instead of of. It's just a cultural language type of thing.

Yeah, I suppose. I guess I can't see it how I should since, as you say I'm american, but it just seems our language is pretty plain but others have more interesting dialects.

I'd be curious to know if having an accent, like an English one or something, helps with picking up women. Anyone know?

That's what the Hip Hop culture is for. It takes the place of interesting dialect of America.

I was born and raised in Boston... When my family moved to upstate NY, where there really is no accent at all, just plain talking... My accent drew chickies to me like **** draws flies. Having a different accent makes you more interesting.
