Yeah, no Uverse in my area or I'd go that route. For comparison sake my current "advertised" speed with DSL is 3mbps/512kbps, which I've yet to see my connection ever reach those numbers. The one I'm looking at is 20mbps/4mbps for about $25 more a month. Granted I don't really have any idea what those numbers mean or do. </p>
I just know right now we're all having a tough time doing what we like online. Mostly my gaming when my kids are streaming stuff ha-ha.

      Re: AT&amp;T Internet service

I had 6mbps with DSL and I never saw anything near it. Uverse is equal with cable though. With Comcast, unless there are a lot of people completely maxing their connections in your neighborhood, you shouldn't have any issues. 20mbps will be great and if you can get 12mbps, that would probably by adequate.

        Re: AT&amp;T Internet service

I have ATT Uverse for TV, Phone and Internet. We've had no problems. Internet service has been fast and reliable (12 MB/down 1.5MB/up) and the TV service has been very good as well.

I know others have had their issues with ATT, but as of yet we haven't. Actually I take that back, our gateway box died a while back, but they came out and replaced it the next morning.

Before that I had DirecTV and ATT DSL. ATT DSL was rock solid. It was 19.99 a month and I had a full 5MB/down 1MB/up connection that never had an issue and never had any peformance issues.

I myself will never go back to cable.

          Re: AT&amp;T Internet service

See that's where I'm stuck. I like the low price tag for what I get. I also like the service as I have all my bills bundled with AT&T. And really up until my daughter got her laptop it was enough speed to power what we had. But it just isn't enough anymore and I'm at the max at what AT&T can offer. I can't get Uverse in my area and there is no timeline as to when of even if it will be available. ]

            Re: AT&amp;T Internet service

Im the opposite.. I just got rid of ATT DSL over the last month

I actually had little issues with them since I got them way back in 04 or something like that...a couple of gateway routers broke on me or whatever but it was pretty solid. I ended up with Extreme and with multiple devices connected I never really saw bad lag or slow down..with my old laptop and this dsl though, it couldnt handle HD feeds or even youtube videos too much... buffering just got on my nerves

What did it for me was my internet just stoppped working completely. For a full day they couldnt troubleshoot the issue... called netgear and had both on the phone... Now imagine a guy from india, and another one from somewhere near there, but they can't understand eachother. Not only that, but because they couldnt fix it, they both wanted to charge me money to troubleshoot the problem... Forget that right?

ATT guy decides to send me someone out of care I guess...but I told him send him in the afternoon becuase i'd be out of the house, but instead they call early in the morning and drops by anyway even though I didnt answer then leaves a notice to re-schedule

I called comcast to come out on that same day to install cable internet and I turned the dsl off..they offered me to only have to pay 19.99 but I declined because I plan on getting rid of their phone line too (was costing me 100 bucks for both)

Cable seems faster I guess but the one thing is im having a similar issue as the OP randomly. Im on the computer connected by wire.. daughter is on laptop which is fine, then wife jumps on her dell and the thing randomly cuts off wireless and slows me down to a halt for a few seconds.. notice it only happens when the wife is on her dell

Reading online seems it may be the router they gave me.. some old netgear model..

              Re: AT&amp;T Internet service

I guess I'm just going to have to make the switch. I had Comcast once before and really liked it. Never had major issues and it was indeed very fast but then we only needed it for my PS3 and our PC. The problem was I had to cut our expenses and I was paying 180.00 month for TV and internet.

              </p>
Now that I'm only going to be spending about 20 -25 dollars more than what I've been paying, it seems like good switch for internet that's much faster.</p>
I still don't have TV so the total monthly cost will be about 67.00 VS the 43.00 I'm paying now.</p>
              Justifying, as I rant Ha-ha.</p>

                Re: AT&amp;T Internet service

I have Uverse, but had cable before and was more than happy with the cable internet, if Uverse wasn't available I'd still have it (or more specifically, if my modem hadn't died and led me to the discovery they never charged me for internet). Once I discovered their mistake, I could get Uverse everything for less than cable co was charging for TV and phone.

I'll never switch back to cable TV, Insight lagged behind getting more channels in HD and now that they were sold to Time Warner channels are disappearing (like NFL Network, the latest casualty). I could see myself switching back to cable internet eventually, if the financials ever work better. I would definitely switch if I was stuck on old school DSL.

I made the call, they're going to be out Saturday afternoon to hook it up. All I hope is that it works better than what I have now or it'll all just be a big waste of time. Thanks for insight on your experiences fellas.

As soon as U-Verse is available in my area, I will drop Mediacrap Internet and add them in a heartbeat.

                      Ditto.

My parents, who live less than 3 miles from me, have it. But it's still not available in my neighborhood.

I wouldn't hold my breath unless you know it's coming, AT&T has stopped Uverse expansion except where they are contractually required.

Is it possible to find out where those areas may be? Quite a few areas around me have it but our area is still waiting.

Well that stinks. I'm really ready to leave my cable company. And since I already have my mobile with AT&T, it'd be nice to get it under one umbrella.

Not that I'm aware. They wouldn't even give a timeframe for when it might be available to me despite me knowing that they had put in the VRAD for my crossbox (which, BTW, it sat for about a year before they switched it on).

                                Re: AT&amp;T Internet service

AT&T DSL for at least 5 years.

I hate it, but it could be a lot worse. I can game online with no problems, stream netflix in HD. The real down side is upload speed.

When I was living with my dad, we had Charter and it was blazing fast.

AT&T has been up and down. I'm just bitter about the poor customer service we have received over the years and their bull **** lies. We had an issue after someone stole the copper wiring out of a main box down the road. Our internet was as slow as 1.0mbps for weeks and would cut off every few minutes, long enough to interrupt anything I was doing.

They sent a tech who was drugged up and kept telling us we were overpaying for a service we couldn't get and we could only get 1mbps and that was the reason our internet kept cutting off. I called bull **** on the guy and we got into a small argument, because he was a know it all prick. I tried calling and getting someone else to come out or some sort of compensation, considering we were paying close to $40 a month for something that only worked half the time.

They finally sent a new technician and gave us a month's worth of service for free (hardly compensated for the ****ty service, but whatever).

All in all.. the DSL just isn't worth it, if you can get a cable service for close to the same price. We are just in a bad location and are limited at what we can get.

I haven't had any real problems in months, except for when it storms outside.

Side note: If you go on Twitter and complain about ATT with the @ATT tag in your post, someone will contact you trying to help, lol..
