Re: 3:10 to Yuma
Just watched this movie for the first time last night. One of the better westerns of its time, held up by two great performances from Crowe and Bale. The latter of whom, without question, is one of the finest actors of our generation.
SpoilerThe shootout at the end didn't really bother me, when you consider that most of the townspeople were the people doing the shooting and Ben Wade was just as committed to getting on the train at that point as Dan was getting him there. But one problem I did have....why didn't they just shoot Ben at some point along their journey? I mean, I know Dan was far too righteous and noble a character to do such a thing, but I refuse to believe that at some point, Butterfield or McElroy wouldn't have just said "the hell with this" and gunned him down so they could all just go home instead of risking their lives to get him on that train.
Regardless, awesome movie.Helen: Everyone's special, Dash.

This one was awesome.
I Hate Russell Crowe and I loved him in this movie."Good music transcends all physical limits, it's more then something you hear, it's something that you feel, when the author, experience, and passion is real" - Murs (And this is for)Comment

Regardless, awesome movie.SpoilerDan was in it mainly for the money, and the only way he got paid was if he put Ben on the train.
For the pinkerton, shooting him along the journey wouldnt have had the effect that hanging him in public would have.Last edited by ZB9; 01-27-2008, 03:39 PM.Comment

Re: 3:10 to Yuma
SpoilerI agree about the public hanging aspect - hangings in those days acted as major deterrents to lawlessness. But I disagree that Dan was in it mainly for the money. Ben offered him money in exchange for his freedom when they were in the hotel, and even Butterfield said he'd pay Dan his money if he walked away. But Dan was in it for redemption, so that his son, his wife and his town would all look better upon him after a life spent being a disappointment to basically everyone he knew.Helen: Everyone's special, Dash.

Re: 3:10 to Yuma
Just got around to watching this last night and I really enjoyed it, and it looked pretty good on BR as well. One of the best Westerns Ive seen in awhile, probably since Open Range and before that Unforgiven, but this was a great movie.Comment

Re: 3:10 to Yuma
Uh...actually...LOTS of westerns can be better than Unforgiven.
Don't get me wrong...I liked Unforgiven but I did think it got a bit too much praise. Solid western but not the best by any means.
Some I would rate above it.
The Magnificent Seven
Once Upon A Time In the West
The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly
3:10 to Yuma
The Alamo
Tombstone
I also watched the Quick and the Dead for the first time a few days ago. Pretty good western by Sam Raimi and a great cast....Gene Hackman, Leonardo DiCaprio, Lance Henriksen, Tobin Bell, Russell Crowe, Sharon Stone (Looking FINE!), and Gary Sinise.AUBURN TIGERS
MINNESOTA VIKINGS
INDIANA PACERSComment
