Superkarts can exceed 160 mph. A 125cc shifter kart can go from 0 to 60 mph in three seconds with a top speed of 115 mph.

I don't think any new car should be made without airbags, price be damned.

You can say that from the comfort of the states but having spent alot of time in India where it is not uncommon to see a family of 4 all on the same motorcycle, this is a big step up in safety. Besides, in Bangalore, it was rare to ever go faster then 20 mph in city because traffic was so bad 24/7.

However, I do agree with the environmental concerns. The cheaper the car, the more people that can buy it, meaning more and more cars on the road emmitting polution. I can't condem it though since I do drive a car every day.

Didnt read though the whole thread, so not sure if anyone mentioned this or not, but it will be quite a while before U.S. automakers even attempted something this smart.

You do realize that this is essentially what Henry Ford did 100 years ago, right? This has been done a bunch of times, the Model T and the Volkswagen Beetle are the ones most people know.

In America, you can get a cheap used car for around the same price. We have no need for a vehicle that cannot even go the speed limit on the highway in America. You get what you pay for; in this case, you get a piece of crap. It's fine for third world countries, but in a developed country, these are worthless. Somebody made a one hundred dollar laptop for the developing world, but they don't sell it in the developed world because nobody has much use for a computer from 1992.

I guess I meant a car that is smart for most consumers to purchase. There is no reason U.S. automakers cant compete with Honda, Toyota, and Kia. There is a huge market that these foriegn automakers have tapped, and our U.S. automakers seem to stubborn to have taken advantage of it.

I understand we need a car that can go a certain speed, and safety is extremely important. A $2500 car is definetly lacking, and I agree with what your saying, but U.S. automakers could do so much better than they are now.
