Production Assistants basically assist the producers or production of the film. It really depends on what a set needs at a given time. But they are extra help.

You could be a PA that ends up blocking off a street corner so that people walking down the street don't walk into shot. You could help with lunch by ordering it or setting it up. You may even be as lucky to help a specific crew with a particular task if they are shorthanded and trust your ability to handle the job.

I've been a PA on jobs and I've done everything from driving people around and picking up equipment to assisting the camera crew with the slate because they needed an extra hand and helping out the electricians with stands and flags or whatever.

Good way to get yourself familiar with the film lingo, learn the production side of things, and showcase your hardwork to get considered for better roles in the future.

And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

A PA could work with various things. Some performing tasks such as editing, writing, and assisting the director. Even assistant to dp at times. Also cold do lesser things like regulate traffic, phone calls etc... As YankeePride said. I will also be a cinematgrapher and editor/colorist for his documentary ( very much smaller project) chance to show off my work.

Gaffters tend to work/ head up electrical department and mostly working with lighting. Usually work under DP and can collobrate with key grip and have an assistant called best boy. Got to love the film lingo.

Oh and usually there can be office PAs and Set PAs office PAs will get involved durring pre-production. Thanks again for the support everyone.

Sounds pretty cool triplej, and just great to get you into the industry! Film lingo always amuses me, I actually know what the grips and best boy are, but couldn't pass up that chance to confuse people

                Thanks for the definitions y'all!

These jobs sound like the perfect jobs to get familiar with the biz. I hope everything works out well for you triple.
