    The Band

Any fans of The Band here? I've started to get into them recently. I've been surprised when I've asked numerous people I know what they think of them and they say they really haven't heard of The Band. From the reading I've done I see that they were immensely popular in the early 70's with Music from Big Pink and their self titled disc. I have heard that they are going to be honored at the Grammys coming up in February. Thoughts?

There's really a band called that? That's what I named my band in Guitar Hero III.

The creek song kicks *** if you ask me. I got into the 70's music awhile ago. I really like Foghat and a band called Bread. It is actually pretty good music. Also, got into Amercia.

The Last Waltz DVD gives me the chills every time I watch it. Rick Danko and Robbie Robertson were both great together.

I like The Band. Their first three albums are pretty much where it's at as far as they're concerned, but in my opinion they really shine brightest when they share the stage with Dylan. Before the Flood is one of the greatest live albums of all time, and the Basement Tapes album is also full of great music. If you like Dylan, or can even just tolerate him, you've got to check those out.

You should definitely check out the DVD of the Last Waltz, too. Most people only know the two songs mentioned in this thread when it comes to The Band, but they have a ton of good songs.
            Helen: Everyone's special, Dash.
Dash: [muttering] Which is another way of saying no one is.

The Last Waltz is an amazing show, the DVD and album are great. These guys are a bit before my time but I've been a fan for a long time thx to my dad being a huge fan. They've got a very versitle unique sound, and the wide variety of guest starts on the Last waltz proves that.

Very influential and highly regarded by musicians, but never really commercially popular.

A great example of how much musicianship mattered back in the day.
