There was a Hey Arnold episode where Arnold's grandpa faced the great Chinese checkers champion Robby Fischer. Good times.

On ESPN's coverage of his death (I'm still wondering how chess got viewed as a "sport"), they showed Jeremy Schaap among a group of reporters at one of Fischer's press conferences. He was making all these ridiculous statements about Dick Schaap, calling him names and insulting his heritage. Jeremy just turned around and left; it would have taken a nation to hold me back from jumping over a table and kicking that old bastard's behind.

Do you mean like poker and the spelling bee? And the way horses are "athletes"? I saw that too and that was the clip that had me wondering if Fischer didn't have a bonafide psychological thought (paranoid) disorder that was becoming florid.

As a paying member of OS, 20$ isnt much but its something, this is the one problem I have with the site. Yes, nothing personal or anti-<insert group here>, but political commentary is IMPORTANT.

The bottom line is that the US govt has made some pretty stupid decisions, exploiting various groups, races, nations. This has happened, it's written and talked about elsewhere, so why cant we have conversations about this?

Again, the US govt has made some bad moves, but so have other governments. I dont agree with certain things, such as the invasion of Iraq, BUT I love the US (I'm Canadian). The people are what makes US great, and just because we talk about something we dont like, doesnt mean we are staring to cause problems.

Please dont close this thread because of this post, Im just putting forth the idea on how to make the site better--and possibly more appealing to others.

If you donate money for breast cancer research, you don't get a say in how that money is used. That's why it's called a donation.

Time and again, it's been proven that politics is a topic that people cannot discuss in a civil manner here. The policy regarding politics here is not going to change.

If the mods want me to, I will. And Im not saying being a paying member means we should get to say everything, what Im saying is possibly even have a political forum for paying members? I dono. Usually I tend to think that if you put money into a project, you're more likely to not be stupid.

And Im not criticizing ANYONE. What Im saying is that it would be great to have some ability to speak on politics--the NUMBER ONE topic.

That's because anytime someone argues, theres a ban or something. As grown men, we should be able to discuss important issues.

At the same time, it's not my site and thus Im not gonna change it. I put forth a reasonably idea. It got shot down.

                        Fair enough.

Wrong. It's because anytime someone argues, "grown men" resort to childish personal attacks and name calling.

This is a "sports gaming" site. The fact that there's bonus forums for discussion of actual sports, entertainment & technology, etc...should be good enough.

Sorry Psy. Im not trying to be a jerk. I felt a subject should be brought up and did. The higher ups dont believe its a good idea, and thats fine. Not sure why there is tension.

I just got thinking about it because a member spoke about how Bobby criticized the govt, and someone responded by saying this thread would be closed. I think that's unfair, thats all.

Anyways. Ive seen some video of Bobby's older matches and the guy was a pure genius on the chess pad. It's sad to see him go...for me, anyways.

I wasn't even trying to get political with it. I was only trying to explain what happened to Fischer and why he left America.

                                But I apologize either way.
