It seems like it would be alright, but like I said I have no clue about these things. I'm not even sure if I'll ever use the HD feature, hell I don't even know how much that costs through my satellite provider which is Direct. Is this one a good choice for it's price? I'm looking to purchase one soon and would like you guys' suggestions. Thanks.

LCD Help?
Hey guys. I am thinking about purchasing a LCD television and it'll be my first one. I don't want anything too fancy or anything, just something simple that I can use strictly for watching tv and playing the 360. I was checking this one out:

Re: LCD Help?
Here's a basic rule that I learned: If you haven't heard of the company, you probably can't trust it either.
A 1000:1 contrast ratio isn't much, and overall it looks as though you could find a better one. At this price, however, it seems like a great value. However, I suggest if you go for a 32" in that price range that you look at this one instead (though it is currently unavailable):

The biggest difference IMO is the PC input. If you get the Microsoft Xbox 360 VGA cable, you will be given the best possible output resolution from your 360 in both games and DVDs (it will upconvert all DVDs to 720p).
If price does not matter and you want VGA input as well, here is the best TV I can suggest for you:

Re: LCD Help?
As far as the price range, I guess I don't wanna spend no more then $700 for one and 32" is fine for me unless I can get a bigger one around the $700 mark. I'll have to be buying it out of the store too because the credit card I have is for emergency use only.
Do any of the stores (Walmart, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc.) have one around or maybe a little over the $700 mark with the same features as the Syntax Olevia you suggested? BTW, what is VGA input? Sorry, I'm not too much of an electronic wiz. Thanks for the help.Comment

Re: LCD Help?
Contrast ratio is not universal, every company scores it differently. So while a Sony TV may say 10,000 : 1 for contrast ratio and a Vizio may say 1,000:1, it means little to nothing.Comment

Don't know if much about this site but they have a 32" for a good price.

Re: LCD Help?
When looking for a budget LCD...start the discussion with the Vizio. Solid PQ and most (if not all) the features on the more expensive ones.
Next, would be Olevia. Another solid choice.
I don't know much about Westinghouse but alot of people got them at Black Friday either last year or the year before. Hadn't heard any complaints.
If price is no object....Sammy, Sony, Sharp Aquos.Comment

Re: LCD Help?
You guys have really helped me alot. I'll definitely shy away from the Emerson and check into the Vizio's. I do however have another question. When purchasing my new tv, what cables do I have to purchase, if any? I have the standard 360 cables that came with the 360, so I suppose I'm set in that department? Again, thanks guys.Comment

I have Acoustic Research cables that I got on eBay for about 75 percent less than Monster cables, and they work every bit as well.
Don't get ripped off blind by Monster cables.
Take care,
