Yeah, that is definitely intentional on their part. The more Oscar buzz a movie gets the more people will want to see it. If it's released in March people aren't really thinking about Oscar nominations 11 months in advance, so it doesn't generate the same kind of buzz. And the summer months are the time for the big budget, visual, "blow stuff up" films that are definitely not going to get any serious nods.

Agree should've gotten at least one nod. I hope Viggo wins, as I think he is one of the most underrated actors of our time. He made G. I. Jane, LOTR, and Hidalgo some of my favorite flicks of all time.

As much as I loved Juno, I think No Country is going to walk away with the award for Best Picture. Critics and The Academy love the Cohen brothers, and No Country was one of the best films I have ever seen.

I've only seen No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood from that list. Between those two NCFOM has my vote. TWBB was great though.

They should really just stick to sports or Football since 90% of their programming is about the games the past Sunday when it's a Wednesday or Thursday.

How can you watch movies and not know any of the above?
I was listening to that piece on the way home from work this morning and it was embarrassing. Golic-"Julie Christie, never heard of her". I think part of their job description requires them to see these movies.

Saw "Juno" and "NCFOM", with "NCFOM" getting my vote. Good to see Hal Holbrook getting some recognition. Have not seen "Into The Wild".

Somebody care to explain how Denzel didn't get an Oscar nomination?

Anyway, Daniel Day-Lewis will win for best actor, they have to make it up to him for not giving him the award for Gangs of New York.

Wasn't able to catch "American Ganster" or "The Great Debaters", but I'm surprised given the critical reaction that he wasn't nominated for one of them.
Can't comment fully on Day-Lewis not winning. I only saw his and Nicholson's "About Schmidt" performance. I did not see any of the other nominee's movies including Adrian Brody's winning performance ("The Pianist" ).

DDL already has one for my left foot. I could easily see Clooney or Depp taken it. Especially Depp since he doesnt have one and has been nominated several times.

Clooney won a couple of years ago (Best Supporting Actor) so I think Depp will be the favorite.

are they even going to have a show this year?

if so, i doubt many of the nominees will show up

That's why they love Paul Haggis. He puts people in seats for a low budget.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer

Surprised at no American Gangster nod, I've only seen Juno out of the Best Pic category, but i assume ill get around to most of them by the time the show is "Supposed" to happen
