    PC Monitor/Video Card Question...

if i turn my pc on, the monitor turns on also, but then goes black after about 8 seconds.. is that my monitor or is my video card causing that?

i cant mess around with it as i'm at work.. but i may pick up a monitor before heading home so i dont have to make another trip back out lol..

    any help would be great!!

Do you see your OS starting up on the monitor? Or do you just get a green light, and then it fades to orange/red after eight seconds?

Could you try using a different VGA/DVI cable? There could be several factors you need to examine before you can pinpoint the culprit.

        Re: PC Monitor/Video Card Question...

I've been having strange problems like this for a while now. Every once in a while, my computer would look like it was booting up fine, only to get no video on the monitor. After a quick reset, it was fine again - booting up in an unsupported video mode apparently. I have no idea what was causing this.

I got a new monitor last month and the problem is more frequent. The first time the computer boots (from being off) the POST isn't displayed. Sometimes it boots fine and I can see video, but most times it doesn't. I have to reboot it to get it to work again. Who knows . . . I may need a new video card.

Really the only way to troubleshoot that problem is to get another known good monitor and hook it up. If the same thing happens there is something wrong with the PC. Probably the video card or mobo.

well i got home after getting a new monitor.. samsung syncmaster 216bw!!

turned on my pc and bam, my old monitor works lol. i said ahh piss on it lets open the new one. turns out its acutally to big for what i need. so i put the old monitor back up, and guess what? it turns on and then 3 mins later bam off again lol.. so i guess it was the monitor after all..

i'm gonna take back my new monitor and get me the 19 inch version or something similar..

            thanks for the responses guys..
