    House music?

I've started to kind of get into house music....I was wondering if there are any other house music listeners out there and if they have any other suggestions?

Some of the groups I've been listening to are:
    Justice
    Digitalism
    Mr. Oizo
    Bob Sinclar
    Uffie
    Daft Punk

I guess I've mostly been listening to french electronic stuff so far....anyone know any stuff from the good ol' USofA?

Not necessarily from the US, but some groups/producers.

ATB, he's probably my favorite well known DJ/producer.
    Dimitri from Paris
    D:Fuse
    DJ Dan
    Sasha
    John Digweed
    Sander Kleinenberg

That's probably a good start and about all I can think of off hand. Not all of them do House all the time, but it should give you an idea.

I guess I just used house because I really don't know what else to call it...I basically mean electronic type music.

I listen to a bunch of vocal trance. Some stuff from Tiesto, ATB, Armin Van Buuren, Paul Van Dyk, Paul Oakenfold, Above & Beyond, Oceanlab, Chicane...just to name a few. I usually only listen to stuff with vocals..dont really do the just music thing unless its really good stuff.

          Herbs:

I got into electronic music, mainly trance and progressive house, about five years ago at the ripe young age of 37. I still listen to a lot of it at the spry age of 42. But unlike Couple, I'm not into much vocal trance. I prefer non-vocal tracks, as it's easier for me to listen to it while working since I'm not concentrating on the lyrics and vocals.

There are SO many DJ's without big record deals or club residencies who kick major butt. The big names like Tiesto, Oakenfold, Nick Warren, Van Buuren and the like are wonderful, but don't overlook the small guys.

Instead of pursuing label-released mixes by the major artists, I suggest you check out some of the EXCELLENT techno-progressive house stations on the Web, all free. Here are my three favorites:

XTC Radio (the best progressive house station on the Net)
          http://www.xtcradio.com/

          Frisky Radio (similar to XTC)
FRISKY is a groundbreaking electronic music internet radio and DJ mix subscription service. Listen now for free!

Proton Radio (a bit varied than XTC with breaks, proggy house, techno, minimal, etc.)
Streaming the best in electronic music live and On Demand. Breaks, Minimal, Progressive, House, Techno, Electro, and more on 200+ exclusive shows.

Finally, James Lauer is my favorite DJ who isn't a world superstar, although he has spun with some big names. He has free mixes for download on his site:

Another guy to check out is Garth Ivan: http://www.garthivan.com/

Have fun with this very interesting form of music!

          Take care,

            Re: House music?

I listen to a lot of garage and vocal house, with artists like Byron Stingily, Michael Watford, Ten City, Arnold Jarvis. There are lots of different little "sub-genres" in house, as I've found. I like to listen to www.housemusic101.com here in the office, DJ'd by a cat out of Seattle.

I just watch the show, I don't care much for the music as I'm usually DVR'ing into the episode and skip it.

They play a lot of house out here in the clubs. I was never into it before but have grown to like a lot of it. I have a friend and that is all he listens too...24/7. I think it might help if you are on something...like Terry demonstrates below.

I was listening to some music tonight and thought of this thread. Curious if you tried any of the suggestions, and if so, what you thought.

I really like Basement Jaxx, all of their CDs besides Crazy Itch Radio are outstanding IMO.

Air is more ambient electronica and trip-hop than house or proggy house. If you like Air, you might like Boards of Canada, Nightmares on Wax and Massive Attack. Give them a spin.

A sad day for fans of house music - the Godfather, Frankie Knuckles, passed away at age 59. So far the cause of death is unknown, but reports suggest it was complications from Type II diabetes. A true pioneer. His music brings back so many great memories of those nights in the clubs. RIP...thanks for the beats

I sometimes like to listen to Benny Benassi when playing games, especially when in pvp modes. That and there's the Ghost in the Shell: Megatech Body CD that I'm fond of.
