    Star Trek XI teaser trailer

    <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/hYg-hiQExF4&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/hYg-hiQExF4&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

I'm a big fan of Star Trek (but i'm not a trekkie i'm a trekker. Big difference) the last couple movies have been kinda blah. It's nice to see they're going all the way back to the beginning of the Kirk/Spock/McCoy etc etc crew from when they were in Starfleet.

I know the trailer isn't much but seeing the building of the original USS Enterprise was spine tingling in some ways. Anyone else looking forward to this or am I the only one?

I'm very intrigued. The fact that Abrams is doing it.. kind of scares me though.

Did I hear Sylar was in this too?

I've been meaning to pick up on either the series or early movies, what would you guys recommend?

          KHANNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!

          Movies II, III, and IV.

          Skip V, VI is ok.

The Next Gen movies are decent, but not great.

they are clinging on too long to the old stuff. The next generation movies got lame, yet they kept churning them out because they were marketable known guys. They make this prequel with young spock and kirk for the same reason. They could further the franchise, yet choose to dwell on nostalgic things like this.

Instead of getting something new, we get new people acting as old characters in starfleet academy. How awesome. I don't think it really matter who makes this movie. The idea of making a prequel to the original star trek series, just to make it more marketable to a wider audience is still trash. I bet they'll even somehow throw shatner and nimoy in there like the starsky and hutch with owen wilson and ben stiller.

Nimoy is in it, Shatner was rebuffed, but who knows they may relent. I agree 100% with you about them moving forward not backwards, but like SPTO, I'm a Trekker, so I'm invested in the film.

The two things that have me most concerned are 1. the script-the writers, while experienced haven't written anything that makes me confident that they can pull this off, and 2. the ability of Chris Pine to carry off Kirk.

well I'm not a hardcore trekkie, but I do enjoy the occasional episode. I would even watch voyager everyday after work to where I saw the whole series. Even though it still had the occasional horrible writing and the cop out time travel B.S. finale, it was nice to see something new. I don't even get UPN, so I couldn't see a single episode of Enterprise. However, it went backwards instead of forward, just like this movie.

Well this is my personal definition. I don't know if it's universally accepted but here goes:

A Trekkie is a complete diehard Star Trek fan that goes to the conventions, knows every series and film inside and out, knows how to speak Klingon probably and more then likely has a Star Trek costume somewhere.

A Trekker is anywhere between a well nuanced fan and a diehard fan that stops just short of all those shenanigans.

BTW bkfount I somewhat agree with you but the last Star Trek series went to the beginning of the Federation (good idea) but they botched it up all to hell. There really is no logical progression to go to unless you want to reinvent the Star Trek universe to the point that the Klingons or some other species breaks apart from the Federation and you have a universal Civil War of sorts.

I like the idea of what they're doing with this movie. It could lead to movies that touch upon ground that isn't nearly so well known. Again it all hinges on the writing.

BTW Fresh Tendrils you can't go wrong with Star Trek: Generations which was the first movie with the ST:NG cast.

Yeah, they should've had a movie with them finally getting back home. STV had a very different dynamic and the first few seasons even had a ST: TOS feel to it.
