The Len Bias Story....
"Maybe I can't win. But to beat me, he's going to have to kill me. And to kill me, he's gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me. And to do that, he's got to be willing to die himself. I don't know if he's ready to do that."Tags: None -
Re: The Len Bias Story....
The story is quite simple. He had the whole world in front of him and did a very stupid thing and paid the ultimate price. -

Re: The Len Bias Story....
It's funny but Don Rodgers died from the exact same thing 8 days later than Bias. Both had the world at their feet.
I can't believe it's been 20+ years since they diedComment

I remember the day it happened. He single handedly beat UNC many games. What a waste. My Fan Page http://theusualgamer.net/MyFanPage_Heelfan71.aspx

Re: The Len Bias Story....
I saw a sportscentury type show on Bias. The guy had the potential to be the guy to lead the Celtics n the '90s with Reggie Lewis. It's such a tragedy but it also shows the destructive nature of drugs.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: The Len Bias Story....
Just a question, but are they going to glorify Bias? I think a movie on Hank Gathers would be much more inspirational.
Edit: I know Gathers had a TV movie, but I'm talking about a big screen one.Last edited by Lintyfresh85; 01-27-2008, 09:10 PM.http://flotn.blogspot.com

I'm pretty sure it's gonna lean more toward the cautionary side."Maybe I can't win. But to beat me, he's going to have to kill me. And to kill me, he's gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me. And to do that, he's got to be willing to die himself. I don't know if he's ready to do that."Comment

Re: The Len Bias Story....
Unfortunately it was. The guy who played him in the movie looked more like Darryl Strawberry and the guy who played Bo Kimble wasn't even the same body-type. I was really disappointed because I totally fell in love with LMU basketball for those couple of years. They provided two of the greatest basketball games I've ever seen, which is a long list. Both times I saw them play Xavier (1989 in LA on tv, 1990 in Cincinnati in person). 220+ points scored between the two teams and Xavier's margin of victory in both games was 2 points. Unreal. A silver-screen version of the Hank Gathers story would be awesome. I will watch this Len Bias movie though. I still remember the day it happened. I ran over to my neighbor's house and told my friends that he had died. He was an incredible basketball player at Maryland. Seems like so long ago...MLB: Cincinnati Reds

Re: The Len Bias Story....
By most accounts, Bias was a good kid who made a horrible mistake and paid the ultimate price for it. His was not a tale of a long involvement with drugs leading to a downward spiral.
Then again, "The Story You Don't Know" promotional line infers some sort of dark secret that could be sensationalized. We'll see.
Man, I still remember the day Bias died like it was yesterday. 1986, right? I was 21, going into my senior year in college. I was absolutely shocked at the news.
Take care,

Re: The Len Bias Story....
I agree, the Gathers movie was horrible. I'd be inclined to watch the movie on Bias... I think his brother died, also, didn't he? I think he was murdered, if I recall correctly.
Another sad story is that of Ben Wilson, who played alongside Nick Anderson in high school, and was set to attend Illinois. He was like the top rated player in the country, and then he was senselessly killed by some haters. He left behind a baby, and Nick wore #25 throughout his career as a tribute to him.Comment
