Optical Audio Selector Issue - Thanks
I am completely stumped by this problem and am in need of some help. I bought two different optical audio selector boxes and had the same problem with both. The selector box allows three optical audio devices to connect to one input. I have two of the inputs connected: one to my ps3 and the other to my cable box. I get no sound whatsoever from either input when plugged into the selector box. If I plug either device directly into the receiver they work perfectly (with any of the three optical cables...so it's not the cables). The cable box outputs in digital coax so I have a digital coax to optical convertor box on that cable (but again it works fine when plugged directly into the receiver). I am completely at a loss. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks so much!Last edited by newbreed23; 01-28-2008, 10:13 PM.Tags: None -

Why does your PS3 need 2 inputs? just seems confusing to meI am completely stumped by this problem and am in need of some help. You can't get just one to work? Meaning unplug everything from the switcher except for your cable box. Connect the cable box to the switcher and the switcher to the reciever. Make sure the switcher is on the cable box input. if that doesn't work then something is just flat out broken. Start simple and expand if things start working.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818 -

Sorry for the confusion. I meant to write that I was only using two inputs, one for the ps3 and the other for the cable box. I edited it to say that now. Thanks. I have tried what you suggested a bunch of times and I can't get anything to work through the switcher. It makes no sense to me at all. I have tested ever component (cables, ps3, cable box) and they all work perfectly until I put them through the switcher. I thought maybe I was doing something wrong or just not seeing something because it would be very odd to get two different switchers (different brands) that were both completely defective. Thanks again for the response and I'll let you know if I come up with anything. I have a feeling I will be returning another switcher and having to try something completely different. Not sure what that is yet.Comment

Yeah, I dunno...if it's not working with 1 of them, I'd start to question cables or the box. I bet you've used both cables from cable or PS3 to the reciever just fine, so something's going on with the switching boxes that we don't understand?Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Thanks again for all your help. Here is a link to the selector box that I am currently trying to use.
I also tried this one with the same result. I returned this one already.

I have tried all the optical cables with both devices. They work perfectly. I bought them through bluejeanscables.com. It has to be a problem with the selector box. I just can't figure out if it's broken or if I'm not understanding something right. GRRRR! Thanks again everyone.Comment

make sure you only have the device you want to use turned on, and everything else turned off. Example: if you are using your PS3, make sure the cable box is turned off. Have you been doing that ?My Fan Page http://theusualgamer.net/MyFanPage_Heelfan71.aspx

Re: Optical Audio Selector Issue - Thanks
i have tried shutting one off while the other is on and had no luck. To be honest that shouldn't make a difference because this not a splitter. The way it is designed, by turning the dial you are making a new connection to only one of the devices. It is a fairly mechanical device. thanks again for the help but i think i need to start considering a new option. any suggestions? thanks.Comment

I was reading the reader reviews on the amazon link you posted and it seems others are having the same problem. Either it works for some or doesn't work at all for others. Very strange.i have tried shutting one off while the other is on and had no luck. To be honest that shouldn't make a difference because this not a splitter.
