The Rap Game
So I was sitting in my house watching T.V. and see Sucker Free is on. So I turn to it, and some of the worst piece of **** pops up. What has happened to rap? I didn't realize it has gotten this bad. Alot of these songs have some pretty good production.

Why would you turn on "Sucker Free" or "106 and Park" and expect anything better than absolute ****?Comment

Re: The Rap Game
sometimes Sucka Free comes thru in the clutch...I remember seeing Sha Stimuli, Saigon, and Skyzoo (i think) from all of them I believe Saigon is the only one with somewhat of a non underground buzz but its a stepping stone still.
You gotta associate a face with the voice your hearing so if they gotta jump on MTV for a quick 60 second freestyle why not?? I'm sure true fans of the genre and some bandwagoneers will like what they hear and go out and put some support behind the guy who actually deserve it.Comment

Re: The Rap Game
Nothing. Pop-rap has always been the most popular type.
I don't know why some people seem to think that all that was pumping back in the early 90s was Wu Tang, Nas, Eric B & Rakim, and that Pete Rock album everyone's always loving. Prior to Nas selling his soul, the biggest hit your looking at is CREAM peaking at #60 on the hot 100.
Go watch some of VH1's worst songs of the 90s/ever lists. You'll notice a lot of extremely popular rap songs that blow.
A catchy hook and a great beat have always been the popularity of rap music. This is true, it always has been true, and it always will be true.
As much as no one seems to admit, this is true for every artist. There's a reason ever BIG single has either a sing songy hook or just a straight up R&B singer on it. There's a reason out of all the Wu Tang songs, 2 of the 3 highest charters feature Mary J Blige and Neyo (and the other is CREAM).
Hell, if you want to see this in action, look at Fabolous and Nelly. Their early singles have not only catchy hooks, but word play that ranges from relatively witty (Country Grammar) to very hot (Breath). But hardly anyone can recite a word from the verses, but everyone's mother knows the hooks on those songs. Listening to their more recent singles shows that they've picked up on this fact.Comment

Re: The Rap Game
I agree with the above poster
that is why I'm glad there is a strong mix tape scene. On some real I know I can speak for alot of the posters here when I admit I've bought and downloaded more mixtape albums than actual albums in the past 4-5 years. Mixtapes hardly carry all the bullcrap from mainstream they give you real music because they are free to no have to satisfy all the mainstream criteria aka Girl song, Club song, Hood song, Political,,,they can just make good music and let it fall into place where it may.Last edited by jerseyboi2284; 01-31-2008, 08:21 PM.Comment

Re: The Rap Game
It's simple, evolution, some say de-evolution but it is what it is, and as consumers WE are the one's that created this monster, the corporate "machine" only did their jobs by capitalizing on this phenomenon. I don't blame anyone, it's like when jazz "disappeared" it got watered down to appease the masses and then just morphed into another form of music altogether.Always looking for solid CF25 Dynasty owners, follow the link to get started >> PS5 P5 Dynasty DiscordComment
