    Re: Vonage Phone Service

Seeing as the company has been getting lawsuited to death over patent infringements, I wouldn't go with them if you're looking for any long-term phone service. My guess is they go out of business in 2-3 years tops.

$25 for unlimited calling to US/Canada and I think Europe or some European countries.

Frequently dropped calls. (Which made the switch to Comcast Digital Voice imminent for me.)

Without using language that's probably banned here, in short, they suck.

At first it was nice, some problems with setup but nothing major. I'll put likes and dislikes below, but I'll explain my experience first. I had it for a while and had some trouble with quality at first, adjusting the bandwith never really totally fixed it.

When I finally just had it with them and got a cellphone (this was like 3-4 months ago) I decided to cancel, the worst part of it all. It literally took me over an hour to cancel, all of that time is only of the talking to one person, not waiting on hold or anything.

When I finally got the account cancelled (they insisted over and over and over again about reducing the prices, a free month, etc.) I was glad I was no longer with them.

        Likes
        - Price, it's very nice.
        - I like the online account features. Being able to hear voicemail via the internet was useful to me.

        Dislikes
        - Quality wasn't this "crystal clear" gimmicky crap they throw out there. It's decent.
        - Dropped Calls...very frequently.
        - Customer Service (worst I have ever dealt with)

About wraps it up. Stay away from them.

Very few problems in 3+ years of service. I have 2 lines at $14.99 per line. Some stuff I like:

          - All voicemails are e-mailed to me as attachments--can listen on any computer with speakers

          - Call waiting, caller ID and many other features included at no extra charge

          - Online caller ID...you can login and see if you missed any calls and who it was that called

I do get some dropped calls but not many. Also, sometimes I'm talking to someone on a cell so not sure if it was my Vonage that dropped or their cell. Never had anyone complain about voice quality and whenever I call home and talk to my wife it sounds fine.

I have a quick question on Vonage, do you still get slammed with federal and local taxes on the line? Looking at my most recent bill from Verizon I paid as much in taxes as Vonage would cost a month. Right now we are desperately trying to save on expenses and this saves us about $25-40 a month.

Quick question, wasnt there some strange way you had to use to call 9-1-1? I remember when Vonage first started they didnt have a way for people to call 9-1-1 because Im guessing it was set up to only recognize the 7-10-11 digit phone numbers and not a 3 digit one. I have heard this was fixed awhile ago but that Vonage customers needed to do something extra to call 9-1-1 but never heard what it was so Ive always been curious. Thanks to anyone that can clarify.
