Windows will always own the market share because of business use.

I love my mac for development at work, but the corporate office is all Windows, and I always run into problems where some web training, or web meeting software, stuff like that doesn't run on Macs. Macs don't have a really good way to interact with Microsoft Outlook (as well as Exchange Servers).

It's stuff like that you miss. I don't even know if Mac is making a run at the business market, but as a new Mac user for work I've noticed a bunch of issues. Luckily my department sort of does its own thing, but if I had to interact with all the Windows compatible software often I'd be hosed.

Again, I love my work Macbook Pro...as well as my Touch. Just making observations from someone who recently came to Macs but still has a PC at home. Lots of little things won't work, would make me hesitant to get rid of the PC personally.

I'm just saying (purely from my personal experience and from what I've heard from other Mac users) that Macs hold up better than PCs. I've had my Mac for 3 years and I've never ever really had a problem with it at all. Now, when I had a PC I could usually expect some sort of minor glitch or annoyance every few weeks. I just don't think PCs are capable of the reliability that you get with Macs.

I'm just saying stuff like THIS doesn't happen with Macs.

To be fair, you've just had a good experience with them.

There have been plenty of widespread issues with Macbooks not being able to display anything after about 2 years of use. This is usually caused by a "pinched" cable in the hinge becoming damaged. Not to mention corrupt startup files that make your workstation completely unusable.

You're going to have issues with either side. Personally, the Mac OS is just as fun as it is functional. I honestly feel this is the deciding factor most people overlook.

Sure you can do the same things on both, for the most part, in terms of basic word processing and such. The difference is the Mac is fun to just manage your files (docs, music, movies, pics) while with the PC you need 3rd party add-ons to get that some sort of "interactive" experience.

Not true.

Our business has a lot of both. There are just as many "odd" problems and glitches with Macs as there are with PCs. We have also found that PCs last just as long as Macs.

I don't really care if people see me as a fanboy of anything, it's the truth. Everytime Apple is brought up they are magically free of any problems and are incapable of getting viruses. Apple has done a great job of convincing people that they have no problems, on their own website they have said that they can't get viruses when that isn't true at all.

I've had my iBook for 3+ years (maybe 4, can't remember exactly) and I've never had a single problem with it. I can't say that about the PCs I had before that.

In all fairness to jmood, the reason Apple has little to no viruses is because they still haven't anchored themselves as a popular computer. The majority of people use PCs and thus, the viruses are programmed for PCs. I don't think he's being a fanboy, I would say your post is more deserving of that title if I had to choose, but let's just avoid all the name-calling altogether, OK?

No, that's not true. It has a lot to do in the way the OS is coded and how most viruses are written.

My comment was strictly because of his comment in regards to Apple and how they market their position as a more secure computing environment, and not with the discussion at hand, showing a disdain for the company's practices.

Asking someone to avoid name calling while you do the same is also very hypocritical.

For the record, I was against Mac's holding up better than PC's so your "siding, if you had to choose" would be poorly chosen.

The proof is in the pudding.

I've had my Mac for 4 years..and I've NEVER had a problem with it. Never. No viruses, no locking up, no mysterious slowdown, nothing.

In the previous 5 years with my PC, I would have issues every 2-3 months continuously...spyware, slowdown, locking up, etc.

It wasn't Apple that convinced me...it was my having an Apple for nearly half a decade and not having to call the "computer repair guy" one time.

yup...Apples don't get viruses.

sure, there aren't many written, but any time that code needs to run at a root level or something needs to get installed on the computer, the OS REQUIRES a password. PCs for years just ran the executable file, and well....we know what happened next.

Viruses will work on a Mac, IF one is stupid enough to grant permission to install something that looks suspicious.

I still have a blueberry iMac G3 (333 MHz) from 1999 running OSX 10.2 and an iBook G3 (500 MHz) from June 2001 running OSX 10.3 still kicking fine. No viruses, nothing.....just working.

Apple doesn't convince me, the fact that I have never had one convinces me. The fact that my computer has never froze convinces me. The fact that I have had zero problems yet every week run into some type of problem on my PC convinces me.

I'm sure with your extensive use of an Apple computer you know that. BUt you probably messed with one at the store for 5 minutes and said you hated it.
