yup...Apples don't get viruses.

sure, there aren't many written, but any time that code needs to run at a root level or something needs to get installed on the computer, the OS REQUIRES a password. PCs for years just ran the executable file, and well....we know what happened next.

Viruses will work on a Mac, IF one is stupid enough to grant permission to install something that looks suspicious.

I still have a blueberry iMac G3 (333 MHz) from 1999 running OSX 10.2 and an iBook G3 (500 MHz) from June 2001 running OSX 10.3 still kicking fine. No viruses, nothing.....just working.

Most PC users are the "administrator" on their machine. So when they click a suspicious file it will just run. Any threads that get created from this suspicious code will run since the initial file was given permission to run a create subsequent threads.

Mac's don't work this way and are a big reason why a virus isn't very successful on this platform. Unix infrastructure also helps....

Very, very similar. That is why people knock Vista's claim on security as just "copying" Apple's OS.

Vista certainly is more secure. IMO though UAC takes it to an extreme, prompting you for every single little change...

But a Mac is going to work way longer and better and than a PC.

Than a Windows PC.

Linux would probably work longer... plus it's free-er.

The proof is in the pudding.

I've had my Mac for 4 years..and I've NEVER had a problem with it. Never. No viruses, no locking up, no mysterious slowdown, nothing.

In the previous 5 years with my PC, I would have issues every 2-3 months continuously...spyware, slowdown, locking up, etc.

It wasn't Apple that convinced me...it was my having an Apple for nearly half a decade and not having to call the "computer repair guy" one time.

We've had our main computer, which is a pc, for about 7 years and we haven't had any problems either. I know that pc's mess up just like Apple's do. One is not inherently better than the other.

I'm sure with your extensive use of an Apple computer you know that. BUt you probably messed with one at the store for 5 minutes and said you hated it.

Not even close. Like I've said in the past, my mom has used pretty much nothing but Apple's for the pass few years so I've had extensive experience with them.

Not good news, considering I can't freakin' stand their ad campaign. Big profits just mean even more annoying *** commercials and ads.

As far as Mac v. PC; I couldn't be more sick of the argument that Macs are better than PCs. You treat your system well, and you shouldn't have any problems. You know what you're doing, and you'll hardly have any problems. Most problems that computers have are SOLELY due to human error. I know there's no statistical proof, but that's how it is.

Bahh. I like Windows Vista. I've never had a problem with it and my Dell laptop has worked great. The only thing I like about a Mac is the size. Macbooks pro's are extremely light.

I agree on all counts (have a dell laptop with vista too ). I had a LOT of problems with my desktop, but it seems (in my experience) that the older generation of computers...the amount of problems is a lot more then recent times. I know 3-4 people that have gotten a new PC in the past few years without any problems.

It depends on your experience. Personally, considering price, I've never thought of buying an Apple. (I haven't had $1,000+ to spend on a PC and there reach would head up if they were more affordable, IMO)
