Official : Heath Ledger's death an 'accident'...

HEATH Ledger died from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs, the Associated Press reports.

“Mr Heath Ledger died as the result of acute intoxication by the combined effects of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam and doxylamine,” said Ellen Borakove, spokeswoman for the New York medical examiner.

These drugs are the generic names for anti-anxiety drugs Valium and Xanax, painkiller OxyContin, and sleeping pills Restoril and Unisom.

The 28-year-old Australian actor’s body was found in his Manhattan apartment on January 22.

Accident that he was taking all of those drugs at one time? Valium, Xanex, and OxyCotin all at one time on top of the sleeping pills?!

Yeah...doesn't mean it was smart to be taking all that stuff at the same time, but maybe he'd done it before and was fine? Still doesn't excuse any stupidity, but now it's not like he was shooting heroin or taking a handful of pills like a lot of people were saying right after.

I was once on four of those at one time...

You sleep DEEP. I'm talking 14 hours at a time.

There's no way he would have meant to die. It's such an unlikely thing to happen...99.99% of people on that 'cocktail' wouldn't have died. He just got unlucky.

If he honestly wanted to die...there's a hell of a lot more potent drugs he could have taken.

From all reports, he was very depressed at his relationship breakdown...thus the anti depressants.

He wasn't sleeping due to the stress of his films...thus the sleeping tablets.

Somewhere along the line the mix has gone bad and he's got unlucky.

Xanax and Oxy are by far the two most popular prescription drugs used recreationally.

And Oxy is used as the rich mans substitute for...______.

So, we find out why a young man died and the first thing on your mind is that some people need to "eat crow"? Jesus, what the hell is the matter with some people?

              Man, that's really sad.

Also, I know people are allowed to express their opinions and all but why do you still have to push it that Heath Ledger was doing this for 'recreation' or whatever? He has no past history of doing so and by this time, we most probably never will know. Can't we all just pay respect to the man and move on?

                    Exactly.

I will say thought that his doctors should have a paid a little bit more attention to what he was taking and advised him on what OTC drugs to avoid. It seems that more and more doctors are so quick to prescribe a cocktail to 'fix' problems.

The fact that this was a tragic accident makes it make a little bit more sense, but no easier.

                    RIP
Overall satisfaction also makes the decline!!!!!!!!!!!!

Going on what THE SOLDIER said, whats' the difference, it was drugs, either it was prescription or not, it's still drugs. Some of those listed are pretty heavy prescription drugs, Oxy is one of the worst. Like EG said, why in the world was he taken all those at the same time, maybe his doctor is to blame, mixing prescription meds is bad. anyway RIP Ledger.

If you can't differentiate between perscription drugs and heroin, crack and/or cocaine...

I understand what you are saying.

                            These were all prescribed medication.

Is it possible he had a difficult time going to sleep and decided to take more than the prescribed amount and felt it wouldn't affect him. Who knows what he was feeling at the time, though.

No matter how lousy I felt or how much pain I've been in, I've always followed the doctors and prescription orders.

I'll tell you all right now that those drugs were not prescribed to him to be taken together. It may have been an accident, but I'm 99% sure it was recreational use. You don't "accidentally" overdose on prescriptions you are told to take by a doctor. The doses of most prescriptions are not enough to kill you, its the increased doses that are used recreationally and bring someone closer to a fatal amount.

I'm not here to say he was a druggie or anything, but while it was an accident, there's no doubt in my mind he intended to get high off the drugs, rather than using them for their intended purpose. Not that there's anything wrong with that either, but obviously he took too much.

If there's anything to gain from The Soldier's post, he is right, Xanax and Oxycontin are two very popular drugs for recreational use.
